Annoyingly enough I can’t remember! Sorry, don’t think I took enough pix of it when I did it. I’d say it did have a sleeve though.

IME, there are two versions of the top damper mount, NRC7981 - one is the right diameter for the polybushes, and one requires a sleeve ( ) - or the other thicker mount  o_O .... There shouldn't be any play in the mounting ..

If you have access to a lathe, the sleeves are easy enough to make .....

Unfortunately, I don't have a lathe.
The weird thing is, the old shock top mount has a sleeve through the rubber bushe, it also has play.

What is it with Island 4x4, no replies to emails..sent one Friday and one this morning.
No response on their phone either.
Must be bloody busy

Well, that was an experience.
It was going so well, I fitted one side and everything was good in the world.
Then removed the other old shock, cleaned everything up and put the new shock in place, turned both nuts onto the threads by hand and start to tighten them. The top goes fine, but the bottom started to go tight. I held the tube with my hand and try to tighten but it just turned the tube.
Removed the shock and the thread is starting to strip off the bar
So I try holding it with grips, to see how far I can get the nut on and the threads literally dissolve.
I have fitted many parts in my time and never seen this.
Have had to order another one.
On the plus side, the new shock feels much better..no bounce IMG_20210719_171602480.jpg

I had to purchase another shock absorber from island 4x4, which arrived really quickly, they certainly get the orders out quickly.
The new shock fitted fine, so can only conclude that the first one had a defective nut or thread.
Anyway, my D1 now feels more planted on the road, I must do the fronts next.
The old shocks were shockingIMG_20210719_155923696_HDR.jpg
