Hello one and all, just bought my first rangie, what a beast!!! :) I do have a few questions though I was hoping people might be able to answer.

1. My rev counter doesnt work, I have had look around and it connects to the alternator is my understanding. I have had a check and I have a spare cable, it yellow (I think, taken a few years gunk of it). There is already a red cable from top to bottom on the back and the large one bolted down. I cant find any spade connection for this cable, any ideas??

2. When I first filled it up (half way!!!) I managed 60-70miles on the first 1/4 of the tank. After this it tumbled and I have just got 80 miles on half a tank, 10-20 from the last 1/4 of the tank? ANy ideas why it just crumbled??

3. Last one, I have BF Goodrich types, mud pluggers LT235/85R16 120/1160 M+S, I have had a look on line and the best I have so far is 30 front psi and 34 psi rear.

Can you provide more details on your Range Rover. I suspect from what you say about the rev counter that you have a Classic, what year/engine combination do you have?

years ago on my fathers 86 classic and his 89 classic , (i think it was )the tacho stopped working, behind the dash was a little silver box replaced them at a cost of about £100 a time and tacho back working, at same time replaced speedo, because that was ticking and inaccurate

I would source a replacement instrument cluster as they are redily available. 1985 will mean cable driven speedo, these are known to have a shaky needle as the drive gear on the speedo wears over time. Rev counters are known to fail but check connection behind alternator cap (the black plastic that covers the wiring at the back of teh alternator) as these can also come loose. Do you have SU carbs fitted, if so, get them overhauled so they work at their best, if not get some fitted, they are the better combination for this engine.
