Hello, been a while since I've posted here, but have used lots of info from past threads.
Today I installed a new radiator into my defenderTD5 2002. All hoses connected as from the old radiator. As I was filling with coolant noticed coolant pouring out from bottom left pipe. The radiator is exactly the same as the old and this little 5mm pipe at a slight angle was not connected to a hose. On the opposite side is a hose lower, which I understand comes from the fuel cooler.
Should this small pipe be blocked and with what?? I imagine on the old it is blocked off.
But if there is a hose going in on the opposite side coming from the fuel cooler should there be a return?
Confused thought I'd have this wrapped up today and driving around.

Did you not check the new rad was the same as your old rad before fitting ?

As i said, it is exactly the same. On the old rad the pipe stuck out with no hose attached and did not show any sign of leak, on the new rad it pours out. There is no hose coming from anywhere to attach to this pipe.
I saw a thread about this but can not find it.

Ok, so have founf out that the rad is designed for two types of setups. mine does'ent use that lower pipe. What could I use to block it off and will be strong enough?

In Rave, it shows two diffferent pipe set ups, one has the EGR cooler and only has one pipe from the bottom of the RH side of the radiator as an outlet and the other does not have the EGR cooler bottom pipe is outlet same as other style. Second pipe is a return from oil cooler.

Unfortunately I cannot copy the page.

But as I have seen, this was changed on later Discoveries TD5's , not sure about the Defenders, example, my TD5 does not have the EGR cooler, and the return from the oil cooler is blanked off. I have not yet crawled underneath to see what the radiator connections are doing .

Cheers

Thanks for the info, I have one pipe connected on the grill side. The inner side is an outlet but is blocked off, 4cm down into the pipe of a hard material. So my question is what could i use to block it off on the new rad, I thought about Gorilla expanding foam, but although some products are water resistent is not 100 per cent water tight. I've asked my neighbour who is a plumber if he knows of a pruduct that will take the pressure of 14psi i believe.
I asked Paddock spares what they thought, but had know idea what or how their clients go about it.
Any ideas from you or anyone would be much appreciated.
