Ah i didnt realise they had stopped making them. Maybe I got one of the last sets

You can make the rails really easy out of a bit of 20mm aluminium box section. Steel if you are worried about the stresses on the seat but to be honest the original only goes into the sheet seat box with some retained nuts.

Not as easy to fit as the split rails as you need to have the hands of a small philipino man whore.

Thanks Vilguy. I appreciate that. I hurt my back a few months ago, so I'm trying to do as little heavy lifting as possible, so I'm aiming to simply copy what you've done as much as possible rather than reinventing the wheel.

What confused me was when I had a quick look at the seat, it looks like the existing smartcar ones have a bolt hole at the front on the vertical, rather than horizontal! They are at the back of the garage though, so I don't fancy getting them out to have another look. Seemed much more comfortable than my defender ones though.

Most (all?) of the modern cars that I've had all have one 'tab' bent down on one of the seat runners. I think it's something to do with making the seat easy to align on the production line.

I've just cut the tab off and either found a suitable hole in the rail, or drilled one.

i think there was a couple of tabs on the front on the bracket which i cut off

i have another pair of seats in the garage that i havent touched yet so i will have a looksee.

its either they have a tab down or its been bent in storage?

Just done the valve clearances,

All bar one were a good 0.05mm too tight, now adjusted and it started absolutely instantly whereas before it would crank for a second then settle into a lumpy tickover. Tickover is now smooth. Excellent and for only 30 mins of time. Easy job that i wish i had done as soon as i had bought it now!

Now to the x eng handbrake i got the other week for a bargain £160 :)

Well the new propshaft tool i bought - an INNOVA tool is bloody useless and doesnt fit properly at all resorted to a normal 9/16" socket as it was much better!

found all the nuts to be just finger tight!!!! then underneath that, the handbrake drum screws were loose, then underneath that... the big nut holding the stub shaft onto the transfer box was loose - this has damaged the splines

Previous owner ... :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Really wish i had checked this ages ago

Still at least its found now and should be loads better after being sorted

I hear ya ! mines were all loose. 0.1mm - as in its 0.2mm and i could get my 0.3mm feeler in there with no issues.

no more rattly engine ! no more smoke

heh its the simple things that make big differences :) and its free to sort so win win!

Just got the x brake on works a treat! At last I have a handbrake!

Here's the eberspacher I got for 45 notes

aye i know, taken before it was done up ;)

drives so much better now, no more chinking noise! and all the slack in the drivetrains gone. Brilliant!

Just got the bargain eberspacher running. I bought it on a punt as it was listed as "spares or repairs". Found one of the wires on the controller was loose. It fired right up and started blowing out hot air. Sweet! :)

its been snowing here too today, bright sunshine so i got the welder out to start patching the little bits on the crossmember and the rear o/s spring mount (just starting to go in one corner) was getting hacked off as i didnt realise how awkward it was to weld until i was under there. (decided im going to do it with the wheel off next time!)

looked back at the drive and it was snowing... wwhhhahattt

installed the cb radio underneath the roof console today (still need to wire it up and install the aerial)

also modified a van type dog guard to fit with some new brackets and just been and picked up a 110 hicap ifor top for the sankey trailer (bargain at £70 and it was only up at motherwell!)

mrs vil is very impressed with the changes to the defender and commented how quiet it is!

annoyingly this morning, the indicator tell tale on the dash stopped...indicating ... when using the r/h set. Indicators are still working. Am I right in thinking this would be an MOT fail?

If so, I need to get in and have a look. Im thinking a wire in the dash as if everything else is working it cant be that?

I am useless at electrical stuff

Cb installed - the empty din socket about it is going to have all the information on the fuel system and the switch over controls
