Hello all, I am seeking advice as once bitten twice shy.
I own a Discovery 3 and it's been a money pit from the start.
When I bought it I knew the engine had seized, so I got it for a song and I particularly wanted a manual car.
I didn't know it was a whole body off to change the engine, which then became an engine, clutch, massfly, suspension unit, compressor and turbo unit. Not to mention the ancillaries.
That said and 3 suspension compressors later I'm about to buy a Range Rover 3.6. Car is on a 60 plate but is a non runner, I'm told it may be the egr valve, what ever that is, from reading other stories is this EGR likely to lead to the same horror story as my disco?
As I've said once bitten twice shy and I agree with everyone regarding the aftercare from main dealers so I'll not be going down that route.
All advice welcome and thanks in advance.

Doubt the egr valve (exhaust gas recirculation) would stop it running completely.
I'd steer well clear if you've been burnt before

Two words... Last one being "that" first rhymes with duck....
If it ain't running it ain't going... Once bitten as you say, find a better one you can enjoy and drive before emptying your wallet. ;)good luck.

Welcome. I might add a bit to my signature : don't buy a broken L332 , (unless you are SaintV8)

The chap is asking 4k its a 2 owner 80k some history body in very good condition never been off road it's been in London all its life.
Regardless of the above....don't care how much it is, don't care if is has never been off road, and irrespective of mileage - it doesn't start.....low miles means nothing if it hasn't been looked after or is a non-runner, unless you like a world of hurt, steer clear.

This is after 5 x mins , lmao

It won't be anything apart from an expensive paperweight, until it works. As the previous owner is getting shot, there is something they are not telling you. Otherwise, they would get it fixed and sell for market value, rather than taking a £6k hit*. If you think the D3 was a money pit , you have yet to meet a 'broken' L322

*£6k hit should have you running straight for the hills. Who writes off that type of money on something that can be fixed

£4k???????? he has binos out so he can see you coming methinks. It could be only a minor problem that is stopping it but I doubt it.

EGR valve won’t cause it to be a non runner. Whoever said that to you is either clueless or taking you for a ride - either way it is likely many things that will be pricey, time consuming and need to be done before you can enjoy it
There are plenty of others available that you can enjoy from first turn if the key. They all have niggles but at the moment you can still choose your battle :)

Is it the 3.6 that has twin turbos and known to fail, also believe it’s a body off job

plus the electronics are bad enough on a D3 , let alone a none working 2010 rangy :eek:

run , rabbit , run, run, run,;)
