Morning All,

I was a member on here some time ago when I had a Freelander 1.8 Petrol Serengetti which although ran faultlessly had to be traded in for something a bit more economical for work purposes :(.

Now that my employment situation has changed again I miss the old girl and want to venture back into the 4x4 world.

Whilst my initial requirement is for something that will be used as my day to day vehicle I want to try a bit of mild offroading and with a budget of about £6000 I'm thinking of investing in a facelift 03> Freelander TD4.

One question I have is that I may need to use it from time to time for long distance motorway journeys and was wondering a) what sort of mpg I should expect and most importantly b) will she sit "happily" at a reasonable 75-80mph cruising speed @ what rpm?

I know I should really be talking mud on here butmy old petrol model really didn't like it much above 65-70mph which sometimes became frustrating.

Any advice of what else to look out for would be much appreciated...

Thanks in advance.

PS. What are the main differences between the standard and sport models?

less.
you can spend 6k on one and it could still brake and cost 1.5k to put right. or you could spend 4k on one and if it breaks you will have the funds to repair it.

if you aren't interested in speed then the l-series is a much better option. It has a timing belt but if thats been changed its more reliable and an awful lot cheaper. You can get them face-lifted aswell.

The freelanders are expensive all round so why not buy a honda as they are much better for the market you wish to enter.

Eh! Honda?

To be honest I was so pleased with my 03 Freelander Petrol despite all the horror stories posted on here I thought i'd stick with the same sort of thing but go for a diesel because of their better reliability record?

I've looked everywhere for a facelifted freelander td4 with less than 60K on the clock and the best price I can find is about £5 - £5.5K so please feel free to show me where I'm going wrong .

I wouldn't be so strict on setting your mileage. 100K motorway miles is better than 30k city driving. Go by the condition of the vehicle and its service record.

my mrs went from a gaylander petrol to a nissan xtrail 2.2dci sport..
and i have to say in the 3 years shes had it its been faultless and i feel happier getting into this than i ever did in the gaylander

Thats great, but we're talking about Freelanders. Who makes these gaylanders you lot keep talking about. I've never heard of them.
