hi mason tell us a bit more. when you trying to start is it turning over fast or like bat is flat. any warning on the dash when you turning it over?

hay thanx for getting back to me!! on two occasions the battery has gone flat since i have had the jeep not sure if its down to the radio system, but ye it did run flat this time, but it does turn over at the rite ratio if on jump leads, also no warning indication on the dash looks all good. am starting to think it could be coincidence and the pump may have gone?? what you think, what it did do two time was on the very first turn over you think it mite catch and start to turn over but it doesn't and carries on turning but not starting,

Take the "Tyre valve" type cap off the fuel rail and depress the valve, there should be pressurised fuel escaping from the valve..cover it with a cloth or similar to prevent it spraying into your eyes. Carry out the test with ignition on but engine not running. This will verify the pump is working or not. If there is no pressure, check the fuse in the engine compartment fuse box.

cheers mate I'll give that a go and get back to you!! i have already checked the fuse for the pump looks fine, where is the "Tyre valve" type cap located please, thing is am ony just finding my way around the jeep' just trying to have ago myself to see if i can sort it before it has to go in to garage so thanx for your help.

mason dont jump in to the garage we get it sorted. follow pipe out of pump to the heads you will come to what looks like tyer valve then do what irish told you lets know how you get on j

Look at the top of the engine and you will see a steel pipe approx. 1/2" dia. which is bent like a "U" with 8 short pipes coming off the bottom which have the black injectors pushed into each one and retained by a square spring clip. Follow the pipe and you will see a black cap similar to those found on a tyre valve, maybe a touch larger. Unscrew the cap and the tyre type valve core is exposed. From memory, I think it's located on the drivers side run of the pipe which is also called the fuel rail. There is a pressure regulator attached to the drivers side of the fuel rail with the feed from the tank/pump connected, this may also be faulty. Additionally there is a fuel filter about midway under the car..looks like a metal canister with a pipe connection each end which could be clogged..word of caution though...the fuel filter connections tend to be pigs to undo as they get rusted. My advice is, slacken the connection from the tank to the regulator and check for pressure with ignition on/engine not running, if o.k., check for pressure at fuel rail valve, if not o.k. then fault is in regulator. If no pressure at regulator feed from tank, either pump is faulty or filter is blocked. Fuel pump is located inside the petrol tank.

hi Irish, i located the valve removed the cap an pressed valve nipple in, petrol did come out, although not like a squirt as you said but more of a pour!! i can not locate the pressure regulator????on the Follow pipe!! so as it stands the plugs have been cleaned which had only been put in 3wks ago a new fuel filter fitted and pressure valve checked, still no starting and the engine turns over fast not slow!! its like its just not sparking.

The Pressure regulator is fitted to the end of the pipe (Fuel Rail) at the bulkhead end close to the Brake master cylinder. You will see a steel pipe about 8mm dia. connected to one side of the regulator by a tube nut,,,the other side of the regulator is connected by a tube nut to the fuel rail.
