hi there,, im chezzy71 from northwest uk,, no landrover as of yet but looking to buy something maybe summer time.... looking at ex m.o.d. n/a diesel and wondering if i would be best with one of these or a civi td5,, got about 5.5 to 6k to spend,,,, looked at some ex mod ones and really impressed how clean they are underneath for a 91/92 year,,,, any advise welcome...

Let your heart guide you! ;)

Ahh thats such a nice answer, what a welcome :)

you F^&king wendy. :D

To the OP, anything you buy will need work, its a land rover. just buy the one that seems the best deal. Then ask a load of stupid questions on here. Thats what most people do.

Right ok lets try another approach then.

Anything you buy wont be guaranteed to work. If you want reliability then buy a VW.

£6k will get you an early TD5 defender(like mine :D) But you wont have much change to do any improvements. You could buy a 300tdi defender and save some pennies, but it will most probably have higher milage and be older(therefore most probably used more) You might have to spend some of your capital making it work.

This is all car buying 101 to be honest. Do the research and buy what you think suits your needs. then be prepared to put some money and time into it to keep it that way.

Thats pretty much it to be honest.

Enjoy

what response was you looking for then?

why ask a qs if the answers given dont match your prethought answer?

well to be honest i just didnt expect the first few answers to be telling me how unreliable they are and that i best be prepaired to be fixing stuff all the time....... but at least your an honest bunch,,, but seriously are they that bad even if i get a good one....?

They are not unreliable you've just got to be prepared to look after them and have deep pockets especially if you get your local garage or better if you can do the work yourself. Land rovers have a purpose, if you buy one for one of those purposes, you won't be disappointed! Mines for towing...perfect tower, safe, strong, nice to drive thus worth the maintenance costs. It's all relative.

that sounds fair enough,,, but a little put off now to be honest....

Oh yeah they do break alot. You need deep pockets.

But like your scooby doo van you grow to love it!!!

i wont be selling the scoobydoo van though,, land rover will be another addition to the family...

what sort of stuff needs regular attention,,,,? and are they hard jobs or easy jobs.......?
