hi, im 17 and have just got a 90, 200tdi 1992. it has its MOT coming up at the end of the month and just wanted to ask some questions:

the window wipers work but do not return to their place but stop a quater of the way down the window will this be a fail?

the passenger side wing mirror is cracked (has 3 lines accross it but does not really affect its use and is all still in place, will this be a MOT fail?

I have done a 200 mile journey today and noticed some oil dripping from the gearbox/transfer boxi think, is this a problem and should i top up thje fluids?

thanks in advance Oli

If you've just bought it, do a service for your own peace of mind. They all leak, get used to it.

If the mirrors fubar get one off ebay for a £5

If the windscreen wipers block field of vision it is a fail, however you will soon get the knack of stopping them at the perfect starting point.

Good luck and enjoy the 90...

If I were you I would change all the lubricants as you dont know when they were changed before you got it,and make sure you tighten up plugs to correct torque and then see if theres any leaks. Not sure whether mirror is a fail or not but someone will soon enough. You can easily adjust wipers where the blades fit onto the spindle. Adaptor with grub screw may be worn which are only a couple of quid. Search this site and you should get everything that you need.
Just seen the pics, nice motor! Hang onto that, I had a series one when I was 17, but had to sell it for sensible boring car. Wish I hadnt!

Nice looking landy you got yourself there. How much did you pay for it? Whats the insurance like? What is it like underneath and below the corners of the windscreen? Change your oils and you may find the source of the leak as well as having peace of mind. Not sure about the wipers, if they are most of the way down I'm sure they'll be fine. Wing mirror I have no clue about, I guess it depends on where you take it. If I were you id just get one cheap off ebay, they can't be much.

P.S. If you leave your location in your User CP, local landy folk might be able to help you if you have any problems in the future.

Good luck :D

Nice looking landy mate.

I bet that costs a bit to insure at your age with all the mods declared.:eek::eek:

well i got it for £2950, managed to knock the guy down from £3500, the insurance is £1100, dont ask me how, i spent hours and hours looking and gave up until a friend recomended the co op so i thought i will give it a try and was shocked with £1100. I tried NFU they wanted 3 grand and every where else more.

that is a hole in the cross member but im getting it replaced soon but the whole car is solid, scratched back the waxoyl on chasis and it is silver. under the winscreen has bubbling and a small hole but i will sort that out and is nothing that is a problem.

the fuel filler is near the drivers door and it didnt come with mud flaps but i guess they will go on the to do list.

I did a service on it last week of the basics, oil change and all filters and have done about 600 miles in 2 weeks so far and its been trouble free.

and im in bishops stortford, herts by the way:)

I would say that you have spent your money well looking at the pics. Whats the mileage by the way?

i,ve just checked the last persons request and fuel cap is on drivers side just behind door exhaust is the black hole just behind passengers rear wheel

Where is the fuel cap for your tank and rear mud flaps?

The fuel filler cap on TDI200 and 300's are behind the drivers door it's td5's where the filler cap is at the back corner.

And it's not a legal requirement to have mud guards in the uk.

Wow, was I that slow to type that! There's been 6 ****ing replies since!

You guys are on it tonight!

Anyway nice looking motor that. Out of interest did you do the exhaust side mount or was it like that when you bought it?

Side exit is on my to do list.

Matt

My window wipers park themselves halfway down the window also. But mine failed on window wipers because the rubbers were perished.

I'd reckon any hole in the cross member could be a problem, but im not sure. A mechanic told me that any holes in the chassis that are within 12 inches of a suspension mount would fail. But he didn't mention cross members.

I'd say get in to the mot place a couple of weeks early. So it gives you a couple of weeks to sort out any failures.
