Hey,
Well, I'm 17 now, and while I've had a few off-road landrovers over the years, mostly knackered, but I am now the proud owner of a 2003 Land Rover Defender 110 Station wagon TD5 Special Edition. Its an ex-mod, but thats all I know.

Its in nearly perfect nick with only 35000 miles on the clock, even no wear on the steering wheel or upholstery (sp?). Pics will come soon.

I just have a few small problems and was wondering what you'd advise:

1. Is there any way I can find out a bit more about the service history? It's had two civilian owners so the logbook isn't showing the military history.

2. The steering wheel isn't straight when the wheels are, it's slightly to the right, and therefore isn't automatically turning off the indicator when I come off a left turn. Is there a simple way to fix this?

3. Finally, roof rack. I have £300. Any reccommendations for a full length, easy to install roof rack?

1. There are ways to look up MOD records, inc when it was demobbed etc..

2. Take off the wheel and aling straight on the splines.

3. No, never bought one.

1. How?

2. I was thinking getting the tracking sorted out, but I was wondering if it could be a steering column problem as the wheels seem to be aligned properly.

I'm gonna have a lot more questions in the future for you guys, these are just some easy ones to get you started!

And if you give me two minutes, I'll get some pics up that the person selling it was using, not had chance to take any of my own yet...

Pictures, as you can tell, I'm great at naming pictures!

And sorry for blanking out the number plate, but I'm scared of lurkers duplicating my vehicle, happened to my old car.

By the way, as the steering wheel is in the picture, thats with the wheels straight!

on the steering wheel problem sounds like a steering uj has been replaced just undo 1 of them and slide it off straighton the wheel then slide it back on (sometimes easier than trying to get the steering wheel off )

on another note did you or yer parents win the lottery 17 and a td5 ! ya jammy get!:D

bloody hell you jammy sod ! me dream landy but not that colour ! you will need to get the landy to a garage and get the tracking set preferably have it laser aligned. if the steerin wheel is really far out then do as has already been suggested take it off and set it straight then get ya trackin sorted just to be on the safe side.
also check or have checked the steering wheel hasnt been forced ! i had some thieving sh*t try to nick me escort van but they couldnt break the ignition steering lock but the steering wheel was not level after that and i found it had slightly twisted the steering column so i had to change it.

It was sold by some guy who had no idea about landies. I'd tell you the price, but I don't know if thats the done thing on these here forums.

And I work, have done for two years. Was working tarmaccing on roadworks, joined the marines, got a 9 weeks into training then I had an accident on weekenders, and now I organise roadworks. I blag myself into good jobs, and have set up a standing order for 40% of wages to go into a different account since my first job, just to save up for a proper landy, I've wanted one since I was 7.

RESPECT! good on ya lot of rugrats out there wont get off their arse's (glad to say mine is'nt one of them)
welcome mate nice deepender !;) :welcome2:

A couple of tips ive gleaned:

DOnt bother taking off the steering UJ's, they have flats cut into the shaft for the bolt so the UJ will only go on one way.

Get the tracking set. Then, don't take off the steering wheel. The boxes don't steer universally, they steer faster as you reach the ends of the travle, for parking etc. Remove the wheel end of the draglink from the housing, and loosen the clamp, Then, screw the ball joint in or out of the tube, refit, and check alignment.

Welcome to the LR ownership, im well jealous otherwise!

Oh yeah. Ebay for the roof rack. They are all fairly similar to fit, with a 110 its much easier due to the length with 2 of u.

Youll get a really goodun for £300 i rekon an all.

"DOnt bother taking off the steering UJ's, they have flats cut into the shaft for the bolt so the UJ will only go on one way."
think you find that there is a groove all the way around the shaft so whereever you slide it on you'll get the bolt through

I thought the shafts were splined but there is one or two splines not cut in to leave a notch/cutout on both the shaft and UJ. Jai

New problem! Not one I've realised until now. But the car was open when I viewed it, and its only been me getting into it until now, but the central locking doesn't work!

And before we all start on the fraudulent seller card, he did put it in the advert, just skipped my mind!

Ideas on a postcard...
