New key help?

Hi all, just got a new spare key from the dealer as he only had 1 when we bought the car, Can I use it straight away or do I have to get it programed?? Dont want to bugger it!!

Whats the vehicle a disco2 ? if so who knows, ask the dealer if it's programmed, if not then the answer is yes.

which discovery 1/2/3? and what year not sure bowt newer disco's but i know 200 tdi ones aren't coded.

Just try it out. If it aint coded it won't start. If it's already coded it will start. I rekon that it aint gonna start though. It won't feck anything up.

ok just tried it an it dont work, wont unlock the doors or anythin, it came with a label attached with 2 bar codes on if thats any help.
can I program it myself or is it a trip to the robbers?

Trip to main dealers, landrover independent or automotive locksmiths I'm afraid.

The key is not coded, its just a piece of metal, its the fob thats coded unlike the D2 & 3 which the key is incorporated into the 'fob'

Do you have access to dignostic kit because I know some cars can be coded that way and some cant, worth a shot if you know anyone with the kit

I just had a new key done for my 02 disco facelift. It was main dealer only and they had to programme it. It was about 70 for the key and can you believe it only 18 per hour to program it. (they were desperate for work!!!!!!). Had to laugh when i asked about a quote just before christmas they wanted 160. At least thats some good news from the recession.
They said it would only take 15 minutes so i thought id take the family along, it was great for the first 15 minutes looked at the anniversery defender etc but nearly an hour later and being abale to hear my alarm going off all the way over in the showroom, i realised it wasnt going so well. Anyway all sorted just some issue with getting it to talk to their diagnostics.
