New key + alarm fob for RRC?

OK, my car only came with the one key + alarm/immobiliser fob, which is bad news should I lose it. So, I have two options:

- Get a new key cut + alarm fob, but this is very expensive - £70 for the fob from these guys! Range Rover Classic 1992 - 1995 key fob Ouch! I believe Land Rover no longer stock replacement key fobs, which is a pain, and I'd still need a key - so probably £100 all-in?

- Rip the alarm/immobiliser out, which is tempting if I'm gonna be taking it off to Morocco, Corsica, etc anyway - last thing I want is it to develop a fault and immobilise the car miles away from home.

Any thoughts on either of these ideas? How easy is the latter (without giving too much away on a public forum)?

Although I'm nothng like an expert I would asume that if your RR has the BeCM system (RF received, alarm & immobiliser) then it would be a massive & probably quite expensive job to rip it all out.

IS a better solution to in some way fool the leccy box that the immobiliser is working correctly and resort to locking & unlocking the car with the key in the drivers door. You wouldn't have an immobiliser and that may affect your insurance etc.

just a thought - I'm sure someone who knows these things much better than me wil be along soon (jealous of the planned trip to Africa tho' I almost made the trip myself in my previous Toyota Landcruiser but that's another story)

I just done this myself. Go to your local key cutting place and get them to cut you a new key from your old one, about £5.

Then go on to ebay and buy a second hand fob, I got 2 delivered for £5:D.

If you have a look in RAVE it tells you how to program the new key in, takes abou 2 mins to do.

Hawaii - I hadn't thought about it being linked into the BECM, I was treating it more as an afterthought by LR!!
 
The alarm system on the range rover classic is a stand alone system only interrupting the starter and ignition only.
Depending on which alarm you have is the next problem.
If it is a soft dash you can have two types
1 pear shaped one button remote standard system used 92-94
2 oblong remote this is the upgraded con log cat one system which was a dealer fit option but fitted as standard on the last 25 anniversary models
If you search you can get the remotes new for £30 last time I ordered some
 
Didn't think Classics had the BeCM (my '88 and '93 didn't)

So as mentioned the Alarm system is a stand alone unit...

I am pretty sure all I did once to resync the key fob was to press one of the buttons 5 times in range of the vehicle....
 
To program is easy
Open bonnet have assistant press alarm bonnet switch down
This needs to be done in ten seconds
Ignition on then off
Lock and unlock doors on sill button
Release bonnet switch
Ignition on then off
Horn will chirp and led flash press remote until light flashes
Then do other remote then they are programmed to abort programming cycle igintion
 
Actually - what Vague says now sounds really familiar.....I remember the other half unhappily standing there in the cold, finger on Bonnet switch me in the warm car...

She said it should have been the other way round with her in the car, I did explain that that was not possible due to some obscure reason to do with the positioning of the moon or something.....hee hee:D

I have just the one rectangular remote with a round button, so sounds like the dealer fit option (mine is a soft dash model).

Any ideas where to get a second fob from? I dont like the idea of just having one!!
 
you have the conlog system as a guess they are no longer available but try the lr supermarket in liverpool they were seling the whole system 75 just replace the unit and the remotes are preprogramed you need a unit to plug into the manual socket located in the centre console cubby box. i only used the kit once when i was at the dealer dont know who would have one know

Don't know what you mean! All it needs is two new tyres, a new headunit, the sunroof fixed, the rear n/s door fixed, the exhaust gasket replacing, an air spring replacing, the EAS compressor servicing, a spare key and new key fob and, erm, that's it! It's virtually perfect in Range Rover terms.

EDIT: and fix the drivers side heated seats.

as far as the ferry :p

sally traffic: there is hold up on the moroway on the way down to dover as there is a broken down rrc on the slow lane and bits of eas compressor and airbag all over the carrigeway :p
 
FYI - LR Supermarket no longer have the full conlog alarm kits for sale, and neither do they sell the fobs.

For now, my search continues!
