:doh:hi alll ,hope some body can help as i`m new here,,my amber hdc light is on all the time i`ve checked fuses and tried locating throttle postison sensor but cant,,pardon me its a freelander 1.8i t reg... the cluth got changed 6 weeks ago but but light didnt come on till 2 weeks ago hope al this makes sense pls pls help:)

i`ve tried sqeezing the switch but light still on,,i`ve also tried disconnecting the switch to see if light will turn off but no luck ...any ideas??? thanks

I think the big clue here is that the clutch was changed recently. I would follow the wires from the switch and check if they have been damaged / shorted together during the repair work.

sorry for being a pain in the a** ,,i had a look this morning but have no luck finding where wires from hdc switch go ,does any one no where they go pls

I had a very similar problem with the brake light switch causing this problem. When it goes faulty it can cause the ECU to do all sorts of funny things! I may be talking rubbish but its worth a look.

Engine compartment fusebox: Relay 3 controls HDC . Pull out the relay, if the HDC light now goes off you either have a faulty relay or faulty wiring to the relay.

Can anyone please let me know if I can convert my 4 seater 1998 diesal freelander 3 door to a 5 seater?

do the relays just pull out in the engine fuse box,,asking cause dont want to break it as its very very tight in there,,thanks

Got exactly the same issue (1998 1.8l petrol). Just happened suddenly, no recent work under the bonnet.

You mention the throttle position sensor & fuses so I guess you've checked out this thread already:

I can't find the sensor either. Can anyone throw some light?

In my case the HCD seems like it's working when engaged, coz it slows to a constant 5mph, even though the green light fails to come on.

just 'cos your going slow doesn't mean it's working. can you hear the brakes "pinging" on and off around the vehicle when it's doing its HDC thing ?

I think in a 1998 Freelander the relays are in the fusebox under the wheel, not in the engine compartment... they are the yellow plug in boxes right?
any idea which one controls HDC?
