Hi guys,

I have had a few issues with my 2004 freelander TD4 with starting & performance.

Decided to change the starter motor as it was sticking and had to keep tapping it to start the car. That now works fine!

I now decided to change the fuel pump as start up was iffy, car was bobbly till I go to a good speed & general performance wasn’t great. Bought a new fuel pump online that was confirmed it would fit, it does fit but the car won’t start at all now!

Put the old pump back on and still doesn’t start! Any suggestions?

I bet that cost more than the £18 repair kit.

Running issue with common rail engines need proper diagnostic reads, rather than simply replacing random parts.;)

You need to read the live data or any codes.;)

You need to have the live data read on the low pressure fuel rail. If if you can hear the pump running, but the pressure is below 250kpa, then the EDC will inhibit the engine from starting. So for a non start, that's the first thing to check.

If the low rail pressure is above 300kpa (closer to 360kpa is best), then the next thing to change is the high pressure regulator O rings, which are also responsible for non starting.
You could also check the fuel rail sensor plug for corrosion, which is another common problem on these engines.
