Hello everyone!

I just bought a 'W' plate 1.8 petrol Freelander a couple of days ago, it's immaculate but has a strange noise coming from the front wheels.

It turns out it's the prop shaft bearings so not too bad!

Also, the engine sounds a little noisy, not sure if this is normal and if there is anything I can try to remedy this?

It's done 100,000 miles but drives superbly, I love it!

Colin.

Hope it's had the head gasket done already, or you're in for big big bills pretty soon mate... welcome to the forum though.

Welcome to the Freelander friendly zone. As you can see the welcome mat has been laid out for you.

From memory my 1.8XEi was a little angry sounding when provoked but under general use conditions was quite well behaved and quiet. When is the noise most pronounced?

I take it there are not many fans of the Freelander on here then?! It just seemed like the ideal vehicle as we have three kids and a dog arriving any day now. I heard all the horror stories about them but just thought I'd go for it!

I had a look at the history and it had a new head gasket and cambelt change 2000 miles ago. I have also just changed the front prop shaft bearings.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Hope they won't mind going hungry, Cos yu won't be able to afford to feed them and put the gaylander in for repair.

Some people just never listen do they??

If you'd listened to the doomsayers, Yu'd have learnt that multiple HGF is a standard Trait of K series Gaylanders.

Welcome to the forum from a fellow 1.8K owner.

Look after your freeby and she'll look after you. Just keep a close eye on oil and coolant levels.

I can't comment on the noise as i've forgotten what mine sounded like when it was stock. It's had a few mods since then.

Wow! It seems I have bought myself a whole load of trouble!

I have always wanted to own a Land Rover but have never been in a position to afford one. I want to buy a Discovery next and keep the Freelander for occasional use.

I signed up to this website because I thought it would be friendly and people might be able to offer a novice like myself some advice about Land Rover ownership!

Take it as character building:welcome2:

Perhaps, old chap, you should re-pose your question in the civilised oasis that is the Freelander section of the forum and avoid the radio static from those only able to shout as to be heard above the drone of their own ego..

Us freelander owners are always getting the **** took from the 'tractor boys'. If you have a quick read in the freelander section, you'll find that you'll quite easily find good, friendly advice along with the crap that comes from the non freelander owners.

Any questions you've got, post them in the freelander section and i'm sure they'll be a few of us who try our best to give ya some good advice.

When i say look after your freeby and she'll look after you, as long as you rectify any issues you notice immediately and don't delay in gettings leaks and problems sorted as soon as they develop, you should be fine.

welcome to the forum colin, with a thick skin, you will find all the answers you seek on here and more. there is a lot of abuse dished out, as said above, mainly from the tratter boys.

apart from the 1.8 k series known faults, it's not a bad vehicle, more than happy with mine (albeit td4).

good landy, poor engine.
Its probably easier to replace a head gasket on a k-series than replace the bulkhead and chassis on a tractor though.

Sold the Freelander to an Australian chap, within 3 months he informed me that the head gasket went, it cost him £1500 to get it fixed. Then he sold it to a friend and it went again! I'll never buy one again.
