Hi im hoping some of you may be able to shed some light on a question i have.

At present i have a 96 300tdi 90.. which needs a new exhaust. i was hoping to replace it with a new one less the cat that it has at present.
but after popping into my local exhaust centre they said it was not allowed to remove the cat anymore and to do so was now illegal. apparently from earlier this year the mot rules changed and if a diesel vehicle was fitted with a cat or a dpf filter it would no longer pass and would be an instant fail if this had been removed even if it still passed the emissions test.

can someone confirm if this is in dead the case and also i i did fit a new exhaust myself without the cat could they prove it came with one fitted as origional from details on reg or chassis numb etc..

im thinking this could catch quite a few people out as i was under the impression from previous threads on here that the cat removal was quite a popular thing to do to improve mpg etc..

any opinions on this welcome as i need to get this exhaust sorted and want to go the right way about it,, deffinatly dont want to end up having to put back on a cat later for the mot if i remove it now...

You have the option of smashing the cat with a hammer and chisel and your exhaust will look original.

is that possible to smash out the guts from a cat then..

just asking..lol

by the seems of things,, the down pipe containing the cat part are all mild steel anyway even when bought as part of a stainless system, which seems odd..

well i bit the bullet and ordered a complete stainless system,,,, without the cat,,, i will save the old cat then if it fails the mot i will refit the cat,, fingers crossed..
