New door lock - key stuck in barrel!

Hi,

Mr.Cheerful is currently throwing things around outside, and the air has gone blue! I've been nagging him (yes, it's all my fault) to replace the knackered door lock barrels on his 110 (300 Tdi). He's put the first new barrel in, but can't get they key out! When he takes the barrel out, the key will come out. What's he doing wrong, please?

Anyone? It's the rear door, and the mechanism is very worn...

When inserting the barrel you have to ensure that you follow the channel and place the barrel in the correct way around, otherwise the barrel will jam and not allow the locking pins to extend.
