Hello All,
I have recently bought a year 2000 Millenium Edition TD5 in Alveston Red,after 5 days starter motor was just clicking, did some research and have got it down to the solenoid problem on the Nippon Denso starters.
Well good old e -bay came up with a repair kit for £13 posted.
Set off to take the starter off this morning first 2 bolts were a doddle, but i cannot shift the top bolt i cannot get leverage has anyone any tips for this awkward bolt?
Also can anyone confirm that the top bolt/nut is a different size to the others ie:15 mm nut as compared to 13mm bolts as i do not want to round it off 13/14mm sockets do not seem to fit.
Anyway failed to get it off and put things back together, sure enough it has started a number of times now no problems as i have disturbed the internal solenoid contacts taking the main 12v cable off.
Still need it off though as i still want to fit the repair kit because i cannot trust it to start one wet night miles away from home
Waxoyled and filled the chassis with wax last weekend couple of small jobs to make the car really good.
Cheers Frenchy.

Had a look on the RAVE cd and it makes reference to only 2 bolts -

Disconnect Lucar connector from starter solenoid.
Remove nut and disconnect battery lead from starter solenoid.
Remove nut and 2 bolts securing starter motor and remove starter motor from engine.

I've attached the image from the manual which shows 2 bolts and also a nut towards the top

I did mine. The top bolt is tricky but will come off if you take your time. Lie on the floor below the car as you do with the other bolts and get the small size socket extension bar. I can't remember the size of socket but it is different than the other two. Reach up and put your hand over the top of the starter and you should be able to get the socket and bar on. The ratchet will then have enough space to slowly get the bolt out.

Keep at it. If I can do it anyone can:). The kit is easy to fit. It's a really satisfying job as my starter is perfect now and the fix was really cheap.

If I can find the socket size I'll post it.

Cheers

Andy
