Hello all. I've got a 2002 90 TDi and I'm seriously thinking about buying a new one! So who got one? whats it like? what are the good and bad things about it? What would you choose on the options? How much did you pay, what sort of deal did you manage to get? and anything else you think about the Defender 2010., all comments welcome. Thanks Ed

Lucky you! :D Initially, the TDCi engines got quite a bad reputation for reliability, and there were some problems with the gearbox not being man enough for the job - but these issues have supposedly been fixed now.

The interior is a big step forward from the TD5 - except for one thing, they have decided to remove the front flappy vents in order to accomodate the new dashboard. That would be the only thing I'd really miss about the earlier models if I were lucky enough to be in the position to buy a new one. But, comfort and ergonomics wise it is miles ahead of previous Defenders.

Bear in mind that an all new replacement for the Defender is due in 2012, so I'm not sure if you can wait that long but it might affect your decision.

Thanks for the comments. Minty I've been saving my pennys! but I'm going to have to sell my old one privately since the trade in offer was a low £3500.

Thanks Langers, thats just the sort of information I was after. I didn't know about the 2012 Defender. Having just Googled images of it I don't like the look of it. Looks like an American Jeep crossed with a freelander to me. I would never buy a new 'new' car anyway, always best to give them a couple of years to iron out the problems. Cheers.

Remember with all that new electrickery you will be expecting even more electrical faults than on the old defender...
As for the 2012, I am scared as to what land rover might come up with
