New defender tax price

I'm thinking of getting a 3year oldish defender 90, now I've seen a few for sale on auto trader and in technical spec, it's saying road tax is £500, if I'm honest that really puts me off! Today I saw a 2013 110 defender xs which still had the tax disc in the window and it showed the cost of two hundred and odd pounds, can't remember exactly how much, no obviously I don't know if that was 6month only.
So how much do you pay for your road tax and what model is it?

I believe the tax band changed in March 2006 making the last Td5 and Station Wagon 2.4 Tdci Defenders the most expensive to tax. IIRC correctly the utility versions were cheaper £260?. With the move to the 2.2 engine the lower emissions brought it back down again.
(It makes a 2007/8 D3 which are looking like tempting buys seem expensive when you go to tax them!)
