New Defender engine!

Just read that LR is giving the Defender another update, seems the Puma didn't last all that long in the end!

New engine is a 2.2 four pot with the same power/torque figures as the old 2.4.

The worrying thing is that the only 2.2 I know of in the LR range is the 2.2 TD4 Freelander engine

Yeh, it's been on the cards for a few months. I doubt you'll get a 2.4 if you ordered one now.

No it's a PSA unit. Used in other Jag/Landy products. Suspect now LR isn't Ford it makes sense to only buy 'x' different types of engine from them and gives LR a bit more control.

Can't see it being a down grade really though.

Few Landy engines will be tuned to 100bhp/litre. So chances are 5-10bhp is the only real difference for a fully blown modded variant.

The transit 2.2 is a PSA motor - and the Freelander's TD4 is the same thing. Also known as the Ford 'Duratorque' engines.

Nah - yr still talkin' ****e.... Duratorq used in the Defender 2184 cc Mondo and Jaguar X-Type. **** all to do with the 2231cc in the Freelander/Citroen/Peugeot things.

The 2179cc PSA motor is used in the Range Rover Evoque and Freelander 2 (2.2 TD4). So I imagine it will be that one.

At the end of the day, when you lift the bonnet of the Defender with the new engine it will say Land Rover, and be compliant with EU emissions legislation for a few more years.

That's the old TD4 engine mate, used in the old Freelander. New one in Freelander 2 as I said is a PSA unit.

Yes in the 2007 model year, but you said 2000 on to 2006 was not bmw
