Yeah, I noticed the sprocket was upside down in your picture. Easily done, mate. Especially when you are putting yourself under pressure to get it right. We've all been there.I was looking at the original sprocket and assuming the lip pointed outwards into the timing cover seal. Never thought to look at the pulley and see the flange that goes into the seal.
Yours must be one of the last 300Tdi's to not have been converted 
. Anyway slipped out again and got it all back together. Couldnt lock the crank to torque it so hit it with the rattle gun for a couple of seconds, along with thread lock,that should do it
HmmmmUsually dont mind bits going on wrong, left out but you only get one chance with the timing belt.
I wouldnt be suprised if its never had a belt change
