Just thought I'd run the Defender down for a pre-MOT check - seems like most of the rear chassis & rear cross member have decided to turn to dust.

Man at the garage suggested that I source a new cross member with extensions (as long as possible were his words) - and to get a galvanised one at the same time.

Any ideas please - where I can get a decently made item (galvanised or not) that will fit? All the threads seem to run to dead ends, or the supplier has stopped making them.

Help!

Richards Chassis - do do galvanised chassis, but not a 1/4 rear - which is what I need (apparently)

Any other ideas?

Thanks for all the help - contacted MIB & Pressbrake (strangely enough, via eBay) - both responded positively, so will get one ordered next week.

Just been to see Pressbrake - aka Clive - I arrived with the "worst chassis he's ever seen" - fourteen hours later, with many interuptions from others, I have a FANTASTIC new cross member & completely re-made chassis (slightly further forward than the shock mounts).

Chassis is box welded in 4mm steel, the vrear X member in "C" shaped 6mm steel.

New spring mounts (top & bottom) along with other loose bits sorted. Loom was "soldered & heat shrunk" - it has to be cut as it travels through the chassis.

I cannot recommend Clive enough - well worth the drive to & from Essex, his skill as an engineer along with work attitude is fantastic - all the equipment on-site - he just did the job.

Absolutely brilliant - Clive, thanks again.
