The Disco needed a new battery recently as it was still on the original after 14 years! It was nt too bad but of left for a few days it would not quite have enough juice to start. Main dealers wanted £175 plus VAT! Even the parts guy was embarrassed and admitted I was probably paying for the name. The local independent wanted £147 plus VAT but stated that they were really really good batteries! I asked if they were made of gold and would they do anything more then run the electrics and start the car if they were really really good. I ended up getting one for £90 from Halfords with a 4 year guarantee.....hat also starts the car and runs the electrics. Robbing buggers some people are!

i have just been looking into getting a new batteries for my land rover discovery 1 aswell yeah i see that the prices were stupid but if you look about you can get them for £60 upwards they still have good reviews etc and i am sure that they will still do the same job as the others that are nearly three times as much

Battery megastore on line. Good prices and 4 year warranty. 130AH 1000CCA about £98 delivered.

Varta - Swedish if I am not mistaken and was standard fitment on Scania trucks when i was working on them many years back. Should have good cold weather performance then.

maybe they should but they dont... failed on me exactly after it went out of warranty, couldnt start the car after it stood 5 days in the cold(below -10*C) and i have no parasitic drain ... same thing happened to a friend of mine it even failed under warranty... i'd never use one again on my D2

Well my Halfords battery is still doing ok although its only been a couple of weeks. It was buried under the snow for a few days and still turned over fine.

German.

Scania and Volvo fitted various makes over the years, depending on the end user market.

Did my factory training at the Scania factory in Södertälje, Sweden in 1971.

There is a local battery dealer near me, fantastic prices, recently got one for 2007 RR halfrauds wanted £137 they were £87
On old A13 rainham essex

Opposite side to elite but not far up, five star batteries ;)

That was quick :) and thanks I'll look out for them when I'm that way again, my wife's relations are in that area so won't be to long.

My present battery was from Performance Batteries, it's been ok for 4 years so now out of warranty but if I had to return it, it would have been a bit of a nightmare as I don't have time for that sort of mucking about, hence my question.
I have had a battery fail once in the distant past and just before the end of its 3 year warranty but no issue just dropped back the local battery shop for replacement

I won't be going online to purchase a battery again but I did save £30 by doing that.
