Our new 10MY Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery 4 were unveiled at the New York Auto Show today.

Had the opportunity to drive them all back to back with the 09MY range a few weeks ago on our track.

Huge transformation - all get new and much nicer interiors, and massively improved powertrain.

Range Rover doesn't have any instrments as such, but gets the world's largest automotive TFT display in their space which does some very cool stuff. The sat nav screen is now 'dual view', which means that it shows two totally different pictures simultaneously. Depending on what side of it you are, you only see one (so whilst the driver gets nav, the passenger can watch TV). Also the option of 5 external cameras which make reversing, parking and blind junctions much easier to perform.

New powertrains are awesome - 5.0 litre V8 nat asp and supercharged (510bhp!), and 3.0 diesel

The 5.0 SC Range Rover is probably the most amazing car I've ever driven. Playing on the track, we had a 0-100-0 drag race between that (me driving) and an 09MY 4.2 SC. The 5.0 was back at a standstill before the 4.2 had reached 100mph

You can then happily drive it through water up to the bonnet. Quite amazing. Biggest brake calipers (6-pot) and discs I've ever seen...

The 3.0 diesel is also a huge improvement over the 2.7. From a standing start at the beginning of the mile straight on our track (an old Vulcan bomber runway), the 3.0 reached 100mph in about 0.6 mile. In the 2.7, I only got to about 90mph at the mile marker! The torque (600NM) is pretty impressive as well!

Whilst they are much more powwerful, they are cleaner than the old engines. This bit is from the official press release:
quote: The class-leading LR-TDV6 3.0-litre betters the already impressive 2.7-litre diesel by 29 percent (power) and 36 percent (torque) respectively. At 600Nm the torque output of the diesel is thought to be the highest of any six-cylinder passenger car diesel in the world, but with nine percent improvements in economy and CO2 emissions over the 2.7-litre V6.

The LR-V8 supercharged petrol engine is no less impressive, packed with innovative technical features enabling it to match supreme performance with extreme efficiency. Power and torque is considerably improved over the existing V8 supercharged petrol engine. For example, as fitted to the Range Rover Sport the new 5.0-litre supercharged engine produces 29 percent more power and 12 percent more torque than the outgoing 4.2-litre engine, yet CO2 emissions and fuel consumption are improved by 5.6 percent and 6.2 percent respectively.
