Guys,

The MOT station details are:

CARLUKE MOT CENTRE
01555 751 050
Station number: 0818AE

I have checked and I am ok naming the station as it was MOT'd before the trader brought it, So VOSA are taking up the MOT issue as a seperate issue.

The MOT issue with the Trader is that the car should have been in a road worthy condition as previously mentioned, regardless of MOT it was not road worthy.

Fanatic, I will call you when I next recieve a corrispondance if thats ok.

Cheers

Is that this one

Mot No. 0818AE
CARLUKE MOT CENTRE
BLOCK 1, UNIT 8
CASTLEHILL INDUSTRIAL ESTATE
CARLUKE
ML8 5UF
01555751050

???

Sorry to say this but do i detect an arse twitching here?

Not at all, nothing to do with me, but I was wondering about the whole time scale things. Just curious, that was all.

It doesn't seem right somehow, does it?

No doubt it will all sort itself out soon enough.

Look Guys,

this whole thing stinks.

I know most of the P38 RRs up here, but I don't know this story.

Any chance you can give me the Reg Number of this car?
Even better, give us the VIN number and let's see if it's been ringed or something.
What COLOUR is it? Like what colour is the one you bought?

Is there any chance of a bigger scam here than we think at this stage?

If you know the mechanic (and i use the term loosely) who passed the vehicle, tell him to apply for a job at the local pub. I have seen this before, VOSA will not allow testing at that station whilst he works there. So he is screwed.

How do we know the person presenting the vehicle for MOT presented the same vehicle second time round? That's what I ask when this happens.

Is it possible the car was bought at auction as it was in good order with a good mot and bought at a good price.
The car was driven to London and plates, vin etc swapped with an old bag of nails.
The old bag of nails sold at £5000 to an unsuspecting buyer.
The good car replated and easy to pas an mot?
Seems daft that a London buyer would come all the way to Scotland BCA to buy a P38.

All the above is just a thought, it could also be all above board?

Well that is possible, but very unlikely. To change the mileage to agree, the vin plate, number plates, get one the same colour is stretching the bounds of probability to it's limits. Clutching at straws would seem to ring a bell here somewhere. If the bloke who did it is going to use that one, i personally would think he is on a loser.

take it easy Wammers .... we are all trying to help here.
We none of us know who tested the car, and actually, we can't be sure the car was tested there AT ALL, never mind twice in the same day.
Keep calm - and NO, I am not connected with that MoT Station. OK?

Here's my next post ... a PM to jay140285

Hiya jay140285,

From CharlesY

It begins to look like there might be more to this story than meets the eye so far. I THINK I know a little more about this now, but I can't be sure or say anything till I can positively identify the RR concerned. There aren't that many of them up here still running.

Is the Reg letters _ _ OOK ?
If you say YES, what is the full Reg please so I know you are not messing me about.
Or let me have the VIN number complete

If I can ID this car, and if I am right, you may be in a stronger position to take this seller on and beat him. Someone may have done (or still be doing) something seriously naughty.

I don't think this is a simple dodgy MoT test situation - I think it may be a little (quite a lot) worse than that.

Speak to me. The more you know, the better off you are, and I am up here snooping around for you.

Reply quickly if you can as I am going to be out most of the day.

CharlesY

I left my email in the PM, so it's up to him now.
A PM from Jay to me won't work.

Charles Email sent.

This is the colour of the car I brought.

Since 34,000miles on the clock it has always been MOT'd at the mentioned MOT station, I brought it with 69,400.

Its was first owned by a person in Glasgow then the 2nd owner was in Carluke.

The mileage is easy to change on a P38, not encrypted at all.
I only know this after many months figuring out how to repair mine.
The VIN.......hmmm, I'm not sure where all the VIN markers are on a P38.
Number Plates is just screws last time I looked.
Colour.......P38's came in limited colours.
So I would think (excluding VIN as I'm not sure) if you had one the same colour the rest is simple.

This is all conjecture off course....;)

Supposing....
If the seller did this he's made a small fortune.....£5000 for a worthless P38 and gaining a good P38 into the bargain probably to sell for another £5000.
So £10,000 made for £2,500 outlay....
£7,500 profit.............Not a bad Xmas pressie.

Many people on here would like to know how it is easy to change the mileage on a P38. I personally don't think it is that simple. There is a way to do it but not in a couple of hours. Think you are in fantasy land to be honest.

I agree.

Regarding the VIN plate, an MOT station will usually only check the main plate, there are some others on the chassis and things but usually under paint or grime and such and therefore difficult to read. So all it takes is the VIN plate being changed and the rest is easy.

It would certainly be worth someones bother to get a dodgy vehicle an MOT.

Jay, I knew a P38 of that colour that was running about up my neck of the woods, not for a while I must add though.

So this bloke has taken the duff vehicle for test had it failed on several items. All recorded on VOSA MOT data base. Then gone away changed the mileage of a ringer to suit. Changed the vin plate that is rivetted to the dash, without stripping the dash or taking the screen out. Changed the number plates (possible) then put the ringer back in the same day. Come on get bloody real for christs sake. Ask yourself why he would put the duffer through in the first place.:doh::doh:

Disco mania, the previous owner had it for 5yrs

October 2005 on the log book till July 2010 was the last Mot in Carluke.

Is it worth me calling the previous owner, he may hang up but he may just be useful to me.

have seen this done before - trader takes a vehicle in for test, it fails, takes vehicle away and returns in the afternoon with vehicle untouched and as the tester is so busy he just logs on and does a fastrack pass without visually checking the vehicle again.

Yes maybe if there was a bulb out, a bulb can blow driving off the ramp after it has been passed. But not if it was a fooking death trap a few hours previously.
