I bought myself my first Land Rover back in the summer and have been going to various off roading events with it.

It's a Discovery 300 TDi with 160,000 miles on the clock and is generally a really good runner!!. However it has an intermitent fault which makes the engine cut off without warning, which has caused me to pull off some interesting motorway monouvers!!

It doesn't spluter or cough, it just completly cuts off!!! Once I pull over I turn off the ignition, wait 30 seconds to a minute, the engine will then restart completly normally and I can continue on. It only seems to do it every now and again, not on every journey and generally only once on any given trip. If I try to immediately restart it, the engine will just turn over, but won't start.

I have changed the fuel filter which was completly fine and it doesn't seem to be a fuel problem as it seems to be either on or off with no spluttery in between.

Somebody has told me that it could be the fuel solenoid??

Please help!!

Phil

Hi Phil

It sounds like the alarm/immobiliser spider that is playing up. It is a common fault. There is a bypass wire/fix available from main stealers. Have a look in the common faults section or do a search for alarm spider.

Cheers Guys.

I found the immobiliser bypass your talking about on the site earlier today, so I guess I'll give that a go!!

I had a similar intermittent problem on my DEF 300 Tdi which turned out to be a loose wire on the starter from the ignition and at certain rpm the vibration made it cut out. Just pulled the cut out wire off ( which wasnt hard ) and cleaned up the tab with sandpaper and gave the clip a squeeze with pliers to ensure it was tight. Prob solved :D . Worth a try.

My mate is having the same problem.

Got our heads scratching.
We have replaced the fuel filter in the engine bay, replaced the fuel solinoid. checked the key fob.
Also his tacho is every so often bouncing which sounds like alternatin probs but his just replaced it!!!!!!

And to top it his lights keep twinkling until he revs the engine. cor blimey
