Need a little help please

Hi I am Steve from Newcastle upon Tyne my car is a free lander 2 2.2 td4 se automatic 08 plate I have just had the egr valve replaced and noticed a rubber pipe coming of the plastic pipe running from the air filter box is just pushed into another rubber tube looks like it’s been taped up what is it for where does it go it’s not very a big size any help please thanks in advance
