N/side front headlamp didn't come on tonight, it's allways come on just after the o/side one when switched on, bit of a delay.
Which are the wires on the bulkhead because I suspect a dodgy plug somewhere.

Have ye checked the bulb and fuse yet?
There's a jumble of wires with connectors behind the head light, there might a dodgy or loose one there or check the earth that's bolted to the inner wing....

Looks like it could be one of those bullit connectors then, headlamp out tomorrow.
I wasn't sure where the connectors were. the lamp works on high beam and it's a sealed unit from a Mini. It used to come on about a second after the other one as if there was resistance to overcome in the wiring or a bad earth. Find out tomorrow..

Have ye never thought of upgradin' to the halogens yet? Much easier tae get a hold of bulbs and checkin' tae see if one of the filaments are broken and a bit brighter;)

Took a pair of halogens off:doh:
The silvering was a bit iffy for the test, might shove em back on as I had forgotten how yellow Mini headlamps were:rolleyes:
 
FIXED IT........

Twas the sealed beam unit that had failed on dip, and it was only a few months old, and I've lost the receipt (I think) .

Tightened the earth screw up while I was there and bunged an old sealed beam unit in that works.
Just got to find out why the o/side sidelight isn't working, no power coming to it for some reason, the n/side is nice and bright but no o/side...bugger.
 
It might just be the screw that goes through the brass thing that touches the side of the bulb. Maybe it's got a bit rusty and not makin' a good earth..... Or.... it might just be a durty connector behind the head light. Might even just be the bulb. If none of those work, try a new side light... only about 3 or 4 quid;)

Arrhhhhhh.
Checked all that and the lamp units are good , just not getting power to the lamp unit I think. Earth is good and the bit to the bulb is good so no reason why it wont work. Even tried the good bulb from the nearside and that wont work in it so I suspect that there is a break in the supply somewhere.

Never know with this heap of crap, it let me down again this morning, no power to the fuel pump / gas solenoid switch. That is the third time a fuse has gone and it has been three different fuses. One under the bonnet, one on the first fuse cluster and now one on the second fuse cluster, all protecting the pump etc.
Cant undrstand it, it's a mass of wires on the bulkhead, I'll be glad when the V8 comes out and the 300tdi goes in, less wires to worry about.:)
 
Is it both front and rear side lights not working or just the front if both then have you checked the fuse ( I guess so) otherwise the circuit is quit simple on an 88 90/110. It goes from the battery to the switches then onto the fuse box where it power two fuses and then on to the front light via a hole in the bulkhead behind and just above (bit of a bugger to get to) and then onto the front wing via the engine bay. The rear one goes same way and swings down the gearbox tunnel then down the main offside member to emmerge behind the small cover over the offside rear lights at the back of the tub. It then goes back down under the tub along the rear cross member to emerge in the same place on the other side. There are loads of bullet connectors everywhere( with the intent of allowing you to easilly remove any body panel quickly without having to pill cables out - also makes failures easier to occurre after 30 years)
 
Check ya fuse , might look ok but is it making a good contact ? - had this prob the other day with a friends landy - had 12v feeding the light when it was disconnected but only 2v when plugged in . turned out to be bad contacts on the fues holder .

btw Bin the sealed units coz there crap , get the halogen upgrade you wont be disapointed :) .

Fuses are all new with new type fuse boxes, trouble is I dont know now which fuse supplies what.:doh:
I'll have to pull them all out and put them back in one at a time to see what's what:)
