Perched on the naughty step
Just bought one that says its the "fixed type" now that doesn't bother me as I'm using as a recovery point rather than a towing eye seeing as I don't have a trailer license.

However their site confused me as it says this;

"The Dixon-Bate 7.60T Medium Tow Pintle has Worldwide recognition as it is in use in armies around the world and specified by most military vehicle manufacturers.
The Light Tow Pintle features a lower lock designed to secure the jaw in one position or allow it to rotate 360deg. The lower lock is secured with a steel pin and clip.
With the exception of the 5 tonne Towing Jaw (Part No 201910). Towing pintles are the only products designed to tow trailer fitted with the military 3 inch towing eye."

I was trying to work out wether or not I'd bought the light or medium version as the blurb is the same on both items. Either way I'm not arsed I was just wondering and kinda hoping it was the medium as I assume its gonna be a bit bigger and tougher.

So anyone know if its light or medium ?

Cheers mate, this is all I've got from the ebay listing

Just as an aside to this question, having spent more time towing bombs and aircraft about than some younger members have spent breathing, every trolly, trailer, and drawbar, had a NATO eye but no towing vehicle ever seemed to have a NATO hitch

You have there a light tow hitch for all Land rover TUM, TUL, FFR, the medium are used on husky, jackle, vector, Pinzguer etc. it is not the fixed type pull the pin out of the bottom and it freely rotates.

I have the same on my disco

Although it's a "light" pintle, it'll be more than up to the task of recovery... Your chassis will go before that does!

Yep, a much more useful rotating light pintle. The proper job on a landy. Now get yersen a Sankey :)

As has been said you will **** the Chassis before that fails I have pulled other landy's and 4 ton bedfords with them on a TUL ( an army defender wolf or a 110/90). And used mine to recover others plenty.

Excellent, well I think the towplate will give before the chassis anyway. I'm going to get an extended bracket made from 6mm steel then bolt that to the existing one as I assume the bolts wont be in the right place with that

I`m no expert but I thought the Dixon Bate medium pintle had a square backing plate (like the one in the pic) whereas the light was more rectangular ? I bought mine secondhand as a medium and it looked similar to the one in the pic but its the wrong angle in the pic to be more certain

I think the square bit might be a spreader plate but the main thing that made me think it was a medium was that he says its fixed i.e. non rotating which would be the medium only ?

Either way it'll more likely than not stay in one position as its a recovery point and for £40 its a lot less than the £280 they are new

Bedford? I've dragged an AVRE a few meters with one on the back of a wolf....although the tracks had been split so it hardly had any resistance.. I was doing great until the clutch wimped out on me!

IF that pic is the one your getting the pin at the bottom pulls out the bottom fork drops then you replace the pin keeping the fork down and the pintle is free to rotate.

There are some real cheap and nasty ones about which are fixed and much lighter duty.

P.s although you don't have a trailer license you can tow a sankey narrow track behind a 90 IF you get the stamped weight down I think somthing like 11 or 9 Kgs as you can tow upto 1100Kgs behind your 90 with your lisence if it has overun brakes. I think the sankey is stamped weight is 1109 or 1190 Kgs so its either 9 or 90 Kgs if you get its weight plate re stamped by a trailer place its legal!!

If you don't mind me asking what are you fitting it to????

If you don't need the back plate (To fit a series x member) do you wish to sell it???
