It's occured to me that after reading a few threads on here recently, that the only time anyone finds out how to input the EKA code, is when they need to cause they are locked out for whatever reason. I am proposing to all of you out there with P38s to go and try your EKA and see what happens. I am sure some won't even have the code and some will find the switch in the door lock is not registering the key turns. My thinking is check it now before you need it, and sort any issues with the drivers door lock. I have to say I am guilty of not ever having tried this. :doh:

good idea. the first time i found out this existed was when i needed it!! since, i've written the number down somewhere OUTSIDE of the car.

I have been tempted to try this, as each morning in the damp weather my battery is flat ( lights coming on by themselves during the night, or the alarm going off.........have not had a decent nights sleep since getting the car....). As I have had to jump start the car each time, which is not too much hassle to be honest, I was concidering just disconecting the earth lead from the battery each night.....and re-attaching in the morning, however I did not want to then find out that my EKA code did not work or I had to reprogramme everything each morning, which would be more hassle than jump starting... So far even when I have had to use the key to open the drivers door, and the dash had said something like key code lockout, engine disabled etc, gear box fault etc, etc as soon as I have connected the jump leads I press the remote on the key fob to open the doors (althought they are already open) and put the ignition keys in, everything seems to work OK!? ( now I've jinxed it....)

So the lesser of two evils at the moment, is to leave well alone........pain in the ar5e when I forget to put the jump leads in the drivers foot well and I have to climb all the way through the car to get to the boot though.....
 
I was led to believe that it was the BECM and condensation that was to blame for the gremlins as it only happens in damp weather, when it is freezing or dry no issues!!!!!!

I have read bits on here about the RF being affected by wireless broadband etc, what is the role of the RF on the car, what will be affected by disconnecting it?

Nothing, except your battery won't go flat. All it does is receive the signals from your key fob. If it picks up a signal it wakes up the BECM and the current draw goes right up. If someone in your area has a wifi station or similar at the right frequency, it will never go to sleep and so flatten your battery. Do a search this is well covered.
 
no you can still use key but have to be close to window at the rear of your car..


OK , Thanks "J", I shall give it a go tonight.......Still think I have gremlins in the Becm though as indicators come on and stay on flattening the battery, only during damp weather though, freezing or dry weather no problem

Just a thought to check the ignition switch, sometimes the little latch that works the key in and out switch sticks, if the dash says ignition key in when the key is removed and your battery keeps going flat then it could be that and that also upsets the locking?

Dont use any lube as that makes them stick worse, a blow with an airline usually works best as its possabily fluff on the key getting into the switch...
