NANOCOM reading - anyone help???

After suffering from recurring bouts of the 3 amigos with my beloved Disco, had her from new and she has been very well looked after by mechanics, I have finally invested in a Nanocom to try to get to the cause of the problem.

I have got only two faults registered, so one of them , I hope, is the 3 amigos and the other is a mystery as I am not aware of any problem!! Except the heating seems a bit iffy since I had a replacement air compressor and ballons fitted last October.

These are :-

18 - 03 ecu ground or ground reference fault (intermittent) 254 times
and
01 - 07 EGR vacuum modulator short circuit - current.

If I could tell my trusty mechanic what these mean and perhaps where to look then I'm sure he could do the work.

Before you ask, I am a very helpless female, very long in the tooth and totally unable to do the tinkering myself, much as I would love to. I live in the middle of nowhere on the edge of the Cambrian mountains in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. Perfect country for Land Rovers but not useful when help is needed!

Not that I can see but, I agree, that doesn't mean it is not there!!

I have printed out a version 1.2 User's Manual - mine is a later one - and that gives you the fault codes but doesn't say anything about what they mean and that is really what I need. I assume it thinks that if you use this instrument you are a competent mechanic and don't need the explanation.
 
the second one is obviously the EGR valve modulator - short circuit not sure but possbily take it off & go over it with contact cleaner?

the first im not sure about it being the amigos...it says ecu ground fault, not precisely SLABS ecu fault..although the amount of times its happened is about right!

Urban Panzer is knowledegable on this, he may know..will be interesting to find out as Im gettin a Nano soon too...
 
You logic is the same as mine! 254 times MUST be the 3 amigoes - it makes good sense to me as that is what it feels like. I've had this problem for about 4 years and no-one seems able to solve it. I gave up the LR servicing a couple of years ago after spending an arm and a leg, and more, with them and getting nowhere. I think the vehicle has had most of it replaced by them just 'trying things out'!!!!!!!!! It certainly seems that way.
I've looked up the website again and in the details it states ''We don't give any faults explanation or suggestions, in order to avoid giving the user wrong information, we in fact think that the fault codes must be collated in the context of the car which they come from.'' As I thought, they expect you to be a knowlegeable mechanic.

Are the ECU ground reference fault, been there recently, mine also threw the handbrake light, SLS etc....

It is basically telling you what it is, its the ground on the ECU thats "iffy". Took me a while to decifer it, but basically its not happy with the current voltage at its gorund.

What I did was, disconnect the plug on the SLABS ECU that contains the ground wire, and also the ground "header" found in the passenger foot well, now the conenctions did not look to bad tbh, but I gave them all, including the actual ground stud a good clean with a little scotchbrite, and some contact cleaner.

Looking into the socket on the SLABS ECU I noticed the connections were "starting" to get a corrosive coating on them, including the ground pin wire, don't get me wrong not much, but maybe enough to "Upset" the ECU, again cleaned those with contact cleaner and re-connected everything back up.

Cleared the fault and to this day (about 3 weeks) have not had a re-occurance of the fault (previously several times in a week).

Yes, your first 2 pictures look identical to mine. The fault report was taken this morning - new Nanocom so had to try it out as I have so much hope riding on it! The slabs ecu has been replaced with the uprated one - one of the Dealers little efforts to solve it - but it made no difference so I will be off to my trusty mechanic and show him your reply- you can see why I gave up the LR dealer, they were absolutely and very expensively wrong. I'm getting quite excited that this might be the end of my dashboard illuminations! The 254 sounds quite feasible since they first started.

The EGR fault as Foss already stated is pretty much aimed at the EGR modulator, maybe a short to ground "inside" it, or the wiring to it, but tbh that would not bother me as the EGR system has been binned long ago......maybe some thing you could consider ?

No list of codes m8, but tbh a list does not help "that" much, its what the code "says" thats important. 99% of the codes have a good explanation as well as the fault code number that scrolls accross the screen, the picture in my previous post does not show the whole code info as it "scrolls" across the screen.
 
If you go to the green oval site you can download for free the official LR workshop manual RAV which, I believe, includes the fault codes, a small explanation of them plus a list of std values for different sensors etc.
 
Back to 3 amigos I found 2 wheel sensors changed got rid ov all 3 faults on dash i.e t.c abs up hill indicator but 3 weeks later 3 amigos back no win situation still love me disco always had a m reg v8 Gas conversion backfired every 10 miles bonnet use to lift people at bus stop jumped out their skin funny at the time wene London was still half good
