Okay, so here's the thing.

I bought a nanocom unit off a member on here that has recently sold his p38 diesel on.
This arrived very promptly today so I took it out to the car and had a little go without messing too much. First off it brought up the fault I had with the dodgy wire on the fuel pump solenoid, this was very clear and would have helped massively a few days ago! looked at a few other menus which were all fine but was unable to communicate with the eas ecu? guess this is something I need to look at on the car sometime.

anyway stopped for some dinner and went back out plugged it back in but it didn't power up? unplugged and tried again but to no avail. tried this with the ignition on and with the engine running but made no difference.

I then plugged the unit in using the usb lead to the cigarette lighter and it sprang to life straight away! I was able to select all the menus but the nanocom would not communicate with any of the ecu's or becm at all.

Pretty sure this is something I must have inadvertently done, a little bit of knowledge and all that!

Thing is I'm not really sure what to do now?do I need to update software? can I do this as a second owner? is there a reset I can perform?

Any help on this would be great.

Cheers

Steve.

Most likely it's not getting proper power connection from the diagnostic socket. USB power puts Nano into a different mode for computer communications with the boot loader and the memory card.

There is a separate power socket on the Nano so you can access the Unlock Codes menus. Do this first, and write down ALL the codes loaded onto it.

Then go and register on the Nanocom forums. http://forum.nanocom-diagnostics.com
Once registered, post a thread to the BBS team explaining that you've bought it 2nd hand including the serial number.
They will assign it to your account, and then you can request access to the SW download pages.

Once you've done all this, you can re-flash the Nano from your PC with latest firmware. Please do read the instructions carefully.

Sorry,

cannot help with this problem, but have you registered on the nanocom forum / website.

maybe there might be some thing on there for you.

Cheers

Yes you can register. Your first post on there should be to introduce yourself, and explain the 2nd hand purchase.

Worked for me, and they were very helpful. My nano is now officially registered to me, and have grabbed 5 SW updates over the last few years.

Thank you Wammers,

Fuse 33 was indeed blown, you are a legend!

Don't start the engine with Nanocom powered up. Switch it off start engine then power Nanocom up. Nanocom will power up when it is connected with ignition off to service BECM diagnostic mode. But don't operate starter with it powered up.

Also Blackbox state that you should connect the lead to the nanocom and then connect the lead to the obd connector on the car.

Cheers
