Whenever I want to try and look at live data or changing conditions on things like cruise-control etc. the awful and overly heavy ODB socket to Nanocom cables drag the nanocom out of the delicate little phone-holder and onto the floor so I cannot achieve what I am seeking to do.
I can understand BBS wanting to supply robust eqpt for workshop environment but is it not possible to leave their "MONSTER CABLE" in the PS footwell in a coil and extend the Nanocom end with a straight through and lightweight serial cable that doesn't drag the Nanocom to the floor?

Does the cable plug into the Nanocom?

Yes, the Nanocom input is a 15 pin female D-Connector.
So as they do all the "clever" pins-swaps and pin ganging in their clever (and expensive) cable; I was wondering if a female-to male straight through would be a viable and lightweight extension.

There will be a limit on the length of cable but otherwise I don't see a problem using the screened cable used for RS232 devices.

I was thinking one of these? But, do they swap the send/rcv pair on a standard cable so send at one end hits receive at the other end? Because we want a straight through.

Here's the pinout from Nanocom Forum in case you want to make a lighter cable.

Just yesterday I thought my Nanocom had died but it turned out that the heavy cable had dropped out of the socket. Once I replaced the cable it still wasn't powering up which I eventually realised was due to a blown fuse.
