Hi all,

I have just quickly swapped out the Parking Sensors ECU on my facelift 04 plate Freelander in the hope that it is the reason the system is not working.

When taking off the rear wheel arch cover I found someone has " customised " the wiring loom before me! does any one know what this connector used to do? and why some may have cut it up leaving just one wire going to it? also would it have any relevance to the parking sensors?

Thank you for you help.

Kind regards,
Angus Redman

Defo factory fitted towbar electric connector been butchered cos someone couldn't be bothered to buy the plug to fit!!

it does have a tow bar fitted so that does make senses :(

Have fitted the new Parking sensor ECU and now when I put it into reverses I have a long tone followed by a flashing amber light on the parking sensor button, guess that means something is wrong in the system, is the parking sensors them selves the only other point of call?

Sounds like the sensors to me. I had similar issues, but decided to bin the factory stuff, in favour of a complete new kit which cost under £15. It worked better than the factory effort, and is probably just as reliable too.

interesting, did you manage to wire it in so the dash switch could disable it, and selecting reverse turned the system on?

It worked with reverse only, and I removed the switch, as I can't see the point of disabling it separately, so I used the available switch hole for a switch for my LED bar instead.

Mine is configured to be switched off when I connect a trailer as the noise annoys me when reversing!! Disconnecting the reverse sensor also switches on the trailer camera which is then projected in the rear view mirror. Can then see cars behind horse trailer in mirror. A sort of see through trailer!!!
