mystery screeching noise - VCU bearing? Wheel bearing?

Hi all,

Mrs Y reg TD4 Hippo has started making this horrible noise when moving - doesn't seem to vary much with speed or with braking.

Anyone recognise the signature of that banshee wail? My first guesses are VCU bearings or something in the wheel hub....

Hard to tell from a video but it sounds like brake pads squealing to me.

Sounds like front brake squeal to me. You need to check the caliper sliders. If those stick, it'll hold the pads against the discs.

Also might be one of the brake disk backing plates rubbing on a disk. Had a similar fault myself.
Or a brake pad anti rattle spring rubbing on a disk.

Caliper pulled, slide pins removed, cleaned, greased & replaced and copper grease renewed on pad backs and piston contact point.
Sorted!
