I have a series II Discovery with a V8 that decided to go pop, I suspect a slipped liner and bought a replacement engine off Ebay.

I noticed this engraving on the top of the casting the gearbox bellhousing attaches to just behind the left side cylender bank.

Does anyone know what this means, has the block been reconditioned at some point?

Good point, thanks for that, I never thought of that possibility, hope the engine is kosher:(??

I have done a google search on the number with a negative result and it does not look like a LR chassis No.?? Anyone any other ideas?

Aaaaaha, that makes sense. I've just got finished fitting the motor and all the stuff that goes with it, just got the fluids to fill.Fingers crossed for a drama free start up as I'm on the Isle of Mull and the engine came from a breaker in Kent
