hi all,
Can anyone advise me of this defect. I have a 2002 tdv6 range rover hse. I stay on a right steep hill to which the road is 1 mile long narrow tarmac. I noticed that if i come up the hill with a bit of a heavy foot my transmission fail safe mode comes on and on parking up notice a small weep of transmission oil from the box. The last time that this happened it was fine next morning an hasnt done it again since then until today. I put it in manual and it made it up my steep drive. My last tdv6 (03plate) did the same once however did not give the failsafe indication. I believe gearbox was overhauled two years ago. Other wise the car runs fab. Any Ideas

I think from your gearbox problem you probably have a TD6 full fat range rover which uses a rather sad excuse for an autobox in the form of a french built GM unit rather than a ZF as used in the petrol versions. They break for a pass-time.

Consider having it plugged in to T4 to see what codes have come up, and drain the oil and see if there is any sign of oil contamination.
