dont be too worried.... if they decide to scrap it, you can then buy it off them.

you'll get the insurance payout and then buy the landy off the insurance..

well, at least I know this can be done with bikes..
only if the insurance wanna sell it yer.Crookiedspiritie couldnt buy his back

I have now been told that its a really bad paint job and the garage thinks it will be scrapped!!!. The lady from soco said I would be shocked. Would the insurance scrap a perfectly good landy just because of that??
Now I am really worried again. How much does a respray cost??

the insurance might write it off if they think that you will insist on it being re-sprayed back to original, if the work is that bad, they would have to strip all the crap off, then prime and paint.

If you make it clear you want the vehicle whatever, and you'll repaint it yourself, you may be able to settle for vehicle back plus a sum to cover materials.

depends on what company your insured with if you can buy it back most let you but some dont

if the paint job is that bad it might just peal of and be fine underneath if they didn rub it down or anything like

If you have banked a 'settlement' then the vehicle is the property of the insurance Co and thiers to dispose of however they think most eccomomical.
They may give you first refusal on it, they might not even bother telling you what they will do with it.
If you dont have a settlement, then basically the car is yours still, and you can argue the settlement to suit yourself.
I wen through it three effing times with a motorbike back in the early 90's; and wouldn't let them write it off on the first two (Outstanding HP was more than pay-out & I wasn't happy about 'scrapping' a brand new effing bike for the sake of a chisseled out lock and a few bits of cracked plastic!)
Something worth investigating though, is the new insurance write off schemes; used to be that for 'write off' to be recorded you had to send the V7 back to DVLA, these days I think that a 'Catagory Loss' can be writtedn against the reg no and chassis number, by an insurance company. Some catagories ie 'total loss' as deemed beyond ecconomical repair mean tha the car has to be SVA's for re-registration, as in the DVLA's eyes its been deemed far too damaged to be 'safe'.
If you WANT the car back, best to try and get it in your hands and assess the paint job for yourself, its a Landy for gawds sake, you can get a good enough cover of colour with a radiator roller!
See how bad it is, with the paint and any other dings and damage, and then argue with the Ins co for a cash settlemet on the repairs.
They are a lot more penny pinching these days, so if you are prepared to take a lesser payout, you may get a deal thats worth while, but tread careful they dont still write the car off at DVLA and find you get a 'tug' and told you are driving an unregistered vehicle or something1

The soco lady said is was still sticky!!!. She said it doesn't appear damaged, they have left the CD player in (I have the front plate) and the pair of side steps I bought to put on are still in the back!!!. The insurance is going to arrange an assessment and recovery to a local garage at the moment, although they may change their minds when they see it. My nextdoor neighbour owns a spray shop so I will ask him how much to spray it back to a decent condition.
I really hope they caught the people who have done this, these past two weeks have been awful, I know its only a car but I can't understand why they have done it, if they wanted a green one to match their numberplates, then why nick a beige one and badly paint it green.
I could happily chops their bollocks off and feed them to the cats!!

Years ago a mate of mine had his mark 3 Cortina nicked...the old bill got it back a few weeks later...no damage and a nice radio fitted...

My defender was a 'beyond economic repair' write off, guy who owned it got the payout for it and then brought it back from the insurance company. We hammered out the dent on the back and it was fine but we had to have it re MoT'd and get a Vehicle Identity Check on it to get a new V5.
The only difference it makes now is that the insurance is more difficult to find, most companies don't like write offs and a lot don't like mods so if you have both try Adrian Flux!
So pleased they found it, bastards want hanging.

Well |I have been to see it...bright frog green in an oily gloss paint, soo, thick that it is all ripply and sticky underneath and actually peels off . They even painted the white roof but painted round the door decals??. It now sports a big number 88 in the rear window and has 2 flat tyres which is prob why they abandoned it. They have only taken the dog guard and the new waterproof seatcovers, left the CD player and allmy stuff in the back including the 2 side steps I hadn't got round to fixing on yet. It seems to have done approx 250 miles, starts and drives back and forth. I think the paintwork would be ok, it will take ages to scrape off but guy at the garage thought a hot jet wash may help?. I really need to know if its mechanically as it was.
I have pics but can't work out how to put them on at the moment

sorry its so big, here are a couple more, one showing how it peels off. The roof is so thick it just has a layer of skin in top

I haven't got it back, my insurance company have yet to recover it from the police pound, and probably write it off.
Who on earth makes or buys paint that colour??.....or would drive round in a vehicle that colour........maybe they thought they looked cool....moronic inbreds
