does anyone have anything useful:der: to say. I was not actually aware it was **** take night like i say this is new to me as anyone who has read my post or has seen my profile.

You have not mentioned you have tried the difflock. With the CV joint damaged, you need to lock the centre differential to get drive (through the rear axle). The ABS sensor may also be damaged but that may only be apparent when the fault codes are reset after repairing the damage. To reset you will need a Nanocom or Hawkeye code reader.

Thank you terryds it has traction control this model isnt fitted with diff locks. i understand the work needs to be done which im currently doing. do you have any experience with the nancom or hawk eye im not sure which one is a better tool the hawk eye seems to have all the features i require plus extras

I agree that with the gront wheel ripped off the drive will pass to that wheel as it is the easiest route. As you have stated putting the vehicle into difflock should help show whether the vehicle will still drive or not. Not all D2's have difflock so it may not be possible.

If the hub has ripped off I would expect the ABS sensor to be missing which is why he'll have tha warning lights on.

when the vehicle was recovered the wheel studs are still intact on the hub assembly the wheel has pulled this through the bearing assembly its not down to the impact the axel is intact and not damaged just the splined drive shaft coming off the cv joint.

Have you got any more pics? I can't tell if it was a frontal or broadside impact from the piccy that you posted.

Even if the axle did turn out to be buggered there are plenty of secondhand ones knocking about for relatively little money.

Is there any signs of bending or kinking in the chassis?

no chassis is fine the wheel was torn off as it passed over a raised kerb side drain so the force would have been equvellant of the wheel being pulled from the bearing assembly. basically the retaining nut that holds the drive shaft spline to the hub bearing assembly plate which in turn holds the wheel studs was stripped right through the disc so yes the abs sensor is damaged hence the three amigo lights but what i wasnt to sure about is this .
being an auto with traction control if there is a fault being stored would that shut down the autobox as well ?? this car i have done a lot of work to oil pump bolt / injector harness egr blanking plate , viscous coupling all the problems and recalls they are known for on disco 2 s ive loved this car to bits i dont want to give upon it yet

So why isn't your insurance dealing with this??

they are im just waiting for an assesor and exploring the possability of buying it back as a project if it will ever drive again

I doubt it. As you have said, It would be worth plugging it into a Nanocom or Hawkeye just to see what pops up. I have one of the original nanocoms and find it dead easy to use. I don't have any experience of using a hawkeye though. Gearbox faults may also be able to be cleared by a non landrover specific diagnostic computer too.

If you're happy that you can do the rest of the work the I rekon it has to be worth a punt at buying it back.

Ere Oddie! Do ya know the lyrics for wrinkle wrinkle little car?? :D

d'ya know this one - nursery taught it ter me little un for some reason

Twinkle twinkle little star
My dad drives a rusty car
Start the engine, pull the choke

And as a guide salvage value is 15% of retail. If they put it down as a Cat. C you won't need a VIC check so long as you retain the log book.

Any future owner will need to get a VIC done before DVLA will issue a new log book though

So long as your partner is ok thats the important thing :) Regarding the vehicle, surely it's better to take the insurance money and buy another one. Why put yourself through all the work of rebuilding a vehicle that potentially could be difficult to insure, and difficult to sell on in the future. Just my opinion for what its worth.

Thinking about it, traction control comes in when 1 or more wheels start to slip. In this case there is no drive so TC will not engage but the ecu is showing a fault. This will probably clear where drive has been restored and the ABS sensor has been replaced.

cheers terry that was what i was thinking too. Although im led to believe a diagnostic computer is the only way of removing the codes from the wabco abs computer it controls the traction control, hill decent and auto level suspension. i have looked on many forums regarding the faults with this system and they all have there troubles even when working correctly.
Im going to see what the insurance comes up with then like you say it will be a project. the mechanical side i can do i have a friend who is a good panel worker and sprayer so im not too worried about that . Plus speaking to local breakers wings doors and bonnets are not too hard to come by. thanks for the input nice to know someone who thinks along the same lines. The only problem with these newer models is the fact that most things run from an ecu or ecm that im not too clued up on but would like to learn.

hi nigel-s im not that bothered in selling the vehicle on i was going to run it a few more years then use it for laneing so that does not really bother me too much.
