haha thanks, well my new alternator was ordered last night only a 70amp unit but it should be fine

And my new Flowmaster muffler should be here today so thats really going to set that V8 off nicely by making it sound real aggressive and deep.

I'd say go for it, V8's are much more fun than small engines and sound much better too

I second your comment.
Where have you started your exhaust system? from where the two pipes join? I wouldn't mind getting some extractors and changing the carb.
Whats the noise like with 3inch? too loud? if ya got a v8 it has to be heard

The muffler is going to be mounted off the end of the downpipe where the old ones used to be but I'm bending it round the crossmember

Basically the system will look like this rather crude drawing I've done on paint haha

Untitled.jpg

Well the muffler is a 2.5 in and out that matches the downpipe size so that'll be linked up using a 90* mandrel, I'll then be putting an expander onto the second 90* mandrel heading up towards the bottom of the pickup bed, this will then link to a T bend that splits the gasses into the 2 stacks and these will then link to the truck stacks

I'll lay it all out once all the parts arrive to see how it matches up before welding on

I'm hoping it'll be pretty loud as its rather free flowing thanks to themuffler design and the fact is a wide pipe if its not loud enough when I put it together I'll take the muffler out and replace it with straight pipe but I'm sure it will be

Not too arsed about a loud idle I just want it to be loud when I plant my foot

haha thanks

Anyway onto today that was meant to be a welding day, however rain stopped play so nothings been done today. On the plus side though I've found some new seats close by to put in, hoping the weathers better tomorrow as I was hoping to have it all back together and ready for MOT next week :( ****ing rain

You've certainly been putting the hours in with the welder there! Keep up the good work mate and keep the pictures coming :)

Tom

Thanks Tom, I was hoping to have him off to the MOT next week but it's looking a bit less likely now

I still need to order some insulation foam for the inside but all new seals are on the way and I've decided just to remove the vents on the front all together for now and then put them in at a later date when I have more time.

Priority one is to get it on the road before the month is out, all little jobs like vents and paint can be left for a while. The foams needed inside to hide patches in the bulkhead though ;)

On a positive note, my new parts should be here tomorrow and if it's dry enough under the tarp I'll be painting the fuel tank and putting the new bump stops on

I decided to return the shocks and get plus 2's as my 109's on parabolic springs so could use them as those oil Monroes looked a little small so I'll order some gas Bearmachs or Britparts (should hold up to light punishment I hope)

New parts consist of;

Many more exhaust parts
K&N filter cleaner and oil
Wiper's
Wiper spindles
Possibly the new seats
And last but not least a sheep skull - to explain the skull, well it's being painted in dark olive drab and black (chequer plate and steel wheels, maybe the roof too) and I thought it would go well with an old rams head so I got a gnarled old ram head with big horns to strap to the bonnet
Truck cab and door seals

Next to order is a new front grille if my mates bro doesnt have a spare one and the insulation foam, then I need to fabricate a winch bracket for the rear crossmember……oh and wide arches as my tyres are a bit too wide for MOT ;)

Rain and high winds today so no welding again :( but……….on the plus side

New seats sorted, K&N cleaner and oil arrived so I've cleaned them up and they're drying off now, thermostat and gasket arrived too so I'll fit that if the weather gets better

Picking up the new seats tonight, £230 for a brand new pair of Cobra Monaco's in red not the most hard wearing looking for mud but damn soft and comfy :D

Glenfiddich time, then bed cos I'm gonna be up early tomorrow to set up a makeshift tent over the project landy and dig holes to drop the legs into for support in the wind

I want it fixed ASAP so a cheap gazebo and some tarps will hopefully allow me to complete the welding this coming monday

I've got 1 small patch on the underside of the mid crossmember, one large on on the underside of the fuel tank crossmember (thankfully no grinding needed on this as the tank will cover this,) then finally the rear crossmember needs some huge welds doing but mostly on the inside so yet again no grinding needed theres one large plate needed on the outside as I cut out that exhaust hole to weld in a flat plate and then fabricate a winch mount round it as I don't trust the winch being in the pickup bed.

Plus it'll hide the welds on the inside as its a full length plate that covers the mid section.
