For those who have read my previous threads you will know that I have been having problems with emissions. Yesterday I decided to remove the front exhaust system including the manifolds. This was simple as all the mixture of bolts were loose. Perhaps part of the problem .
I have ordered the bits but have to wait for them to arrive from the UK so decided to do what I rarely do and that is to read the Haynes Manual.
The quandry I am in is that the Manual states that late S3 only had gaskets on the inlet manifold. The one I removed was a complete gasket covering both inlet and exhaust. It was in a mess and the two end exhast areas were heavily tarred up and glazed. Whoever had replaced it in the past had neither tightend the array of fixations or removed the remainder of the previous gasket. That aside I am asking advice on whether to use just the inlet manifold gaskets or one that covers both. I must admit to leaning toward a full gasket as I can't see a gas tight seal being achieved otherwise on the exhast manifold.
Has any one read this and done as Haynes suggests?
