I posted earlier this week when I was down in Lincolnshire that my engine oil cap had smoke coming from it, I am with Adrian Flux's break down cover and the people that were sent out placed a rubber glue seal around the cap and also around the breather because after he took it out the rubber seal went on it.

I was told she would be ok to drive home and the. Take to a garage for inspection however on the way the turbo blew and she tried to run off on me, I slowed down, shifted into 5th and dumped the clutch stalling her rather quickly. Moved into the hard shoulder and got towed home. I have booked it into the garage next Tuesday and they will diagnose what caused the turbo to blow, it is possible that the people who sealed the cap and the breather, blocked the breather in the process forcing the engine pressure out through the turbo, if this is true what are my rights? Can I claim these costs back from my insurers or the garage that made these alterations?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks guys

independant engineeeing report required

I have all the paperwork that was signed after the labour had been done, got photos of it unaltered and also looking to get it into the garage next week and they will locate the cause behind it, they are a reputable independent land rover specialist that is nearby, anything else I should do?

You write to the insurers, they'll pass the complaint on to the breakdown co. They then get a written report from the driver involved and make their decision on what will happen.

Before you go thinking 'In that case they'll cover their own arses' It doesn't work that way. I've been strung out to dry on more than one occasion for things that I haven't done.:mad::mad:

she took off like the clappers, was a case of braking hard, and stalling it, but i happened to be doing 50mph at the time, so had to brake first to slow down then stall, by the time i had it slow enough the engine was ready to jump out of the bay, dropped it into 5th with handbrake up, foot on the brakes and it literally skipped down the road till it stopped....

replaced all o-rings and washers again, cleaned out and replaced the oil, and intake etc, turned it over by hand a few times, sounded ok, so started it, and she started to run off again, stupidly i had it facing a wall, so couldnt stall it in foreward gears, tried reverse and stripped the gear.... so had to choke it by covering the intake...

turned out the reason it took off again was because there was still residual ****e in the intercooler even after cleaning it out, so once it was all cleaned out again started it up, sounded like **** and was ****ing all sorts of ****e out the back of the head, boiling out the header tank.

so at that stage i admitted defeat....

bought a golf (worst decision ever) and now have a 200tdi csw :)

That sounds pretty intense, mine only ran off for about 2 seconds before I managed to stall her, I was already slowing down in the hard shoulder before she got angry so hopefully the damage had been minimised, I hope the turbo is salvageable as well.

Checked the clutch and heard and it seems to be ok, gonna leave the engine up to the expertise of the garage however!

blocking breather or sealing cap allowing engine to pressurise wouldnt effect turbo ,might allow oil up and out of dipstick or push oil seals outwards ,sounds more like general wear or some other fault ,turbo if cause woudnt be serviceable it has to be really worn for run on to occur

There is oil in the turbo and the airbox so figured the turbo was the cause, however the car seemed to be breathing its heaviest when it was idling and that's before the turbo was even spooling up.
