My P38 is frozen!!!

Morning everyone! I have just been out to my car and it is like an ice block. I unlocked via the key cos the fob hasnt worked since i bought it, but the central locking didnt work and resulted in the alarm going off!!! Is this a common fault or am i just unlucky? Do i need to wait for it to defrost? Any help would be appreciated.......

Did the alarm go off when you turned the key or opened the door??

If it was when you opened the door, and also the other doors didn't unlock, I would guess it is the lock microswitch.

In the lock mechanism is a microswitch which tells the BeCM that the door has been unlocked and therefore to unlock the rest and disarm the alarm....

If it didn't recieve this signal from the lock microswitch the BeCM and the Alarm didn't know it was to do anything and considered this intrusion to be a break in.....

Lock Microswitches do fail with regularity, but it is just as likely to be frozen too....

Wait till it warms up and give it another try, if the Central Locking works when you go to lock or unlock once it has warmed up, you know it is a frozen microswitch/lock mechanism, if the result is the same i.e. no central locking activation on turning the key, I would suspect a dodgy microswitch....
 
ye driver door trips c locking /passenger door told to open/ passenger door micswitch has something to do wi something/i know theres only one key hole.......
 
Central locking is controlled by drivers door lock. R/H or L/H Drive. All others are slave to it. As i understand it. On diagrams. Passeger door lock and drivers door lock are indentical, manual control being applied to either one as required by key locking mechanism.

I don't know what you're thinking and I'm beginning to wonder what you're smoking. :D

However, if your car was truly frozen then, once it's thawed out, check your tailgate mechanism. During last year's big freeze my tailgate froze and the electrical release wouldn't stop trying to operate to the extent where I was expecting the solenoid to burn out any moment.

I stripped it and found that water had come in round the button, rusted the spring and run down the mechanism.
WD40 on all the mechanism, made a new spring out of a coat hanger, coated it in grease and replaced the wee rubber ring round the outside. No problems since.
 
Hi guys, sorry its taken so long to get back to you all. Once the weather warmed up i tried it again but it still didnt work so i had to wait until payday to buy the new latch. I have the next few days off so i am going to try and change it myself, is it a hard job? Will there be much room for my big old shovel hands? And finally is there anybody available in the Tonbridge area tomorrow lol
