My new seats!

Nice one johnlad. I've also got some MGF seats in the loft for fitting but just haven't got round to that yet.

Are the seat runners still doing their job & is there any room left to slide back further? (I've got a bulkhead removal bar and want them to go back a bit further)

I thought the MGF seats looked best as they've got good back support but the seat base bolsters aren't too high meaning you haven't got so much to slide your back side over getting in & out.

Ta.

EDIT: and what is the seatbase angle like? Would they benefit from tilting like the OP here with wedges?
im 6' 2" and find there's enough room for me, the runners still work as they should, im restricted in taking them to the full extent of the slider as it's a truckcab so no bulkhead removal bar for me, i find the angle of the base is about right but would be easy to alter if you prefer a straighter base

Superb thread - Superb Job - good stuff!!

Rep points for you sir. Seem so easy to fix etc. Is it a "bitch" to get the passenger one out to access the battery?

Thanks.

In terms of getting to the battery, the cover for the battery box can be removed with the passenger seat in place (we made sure of this before fitting and making brackets etc.)and the gap between the front of the seat and the seat box is wide enough for me to get my arm through. And when we drilled all the old mounting brackets off the bottom of the seat rails, some little blocks which seemed to act as the stoppers for the slider also ended up coming out of the rails, so the seats can now slide much further than standard. We found as a pleasant surprise that the seat can slide a long way forward giving excellent access to the battery at the back.

One of my plans is to put an output for the battery through a small hole in the front of the seat box (with a cover on it for safety) for when we use our air compressor for the tyres after off-roading.

With so many excellent used seats out there (I fitted a pair of as new Disco 2's in my 110) and the relative ease of fitment I always wonder why the stock items feth so much second hand.

In my experience the factory seats are too low and offer no lumbar support at all, yes the bases come off but for the odd times you need to get at the battery I find a three min job with a socket and wrench pretty hassle free.

For the drivers side fit one of these ...... the best use of that space ever!

Fantastic!! Too bad I can't get the cover off the box on the driver's side.:( It seems to be fairly well stuck.

I'm planning to make a centre cubby box like the one pictured now that we no longer have a middle seat. I know they can be bought cheap in the UK but shipping costs so much to NZ I think I'll make one with some plywood and vinyl. They look to be a fairly simple shape.

As for battery access, I will try to post some photos of the battery box with my new seats fitted so people can understand what my previous post is rattling on about.:)

Nice seats........i have been looking at doing mine as well but was stuck as to what seats to use......ebay here i come.........fancy doing mine

For those who are interested, here are some photos showing access to the front of the seatbox (a bit tight, which is why I want to put in an outlet for battery).

And here are some photos of the access to the back. The seat can slide a long way forward (as mentioned earlier) and the back folds down with a quick release giving great access.

Have a look for ANDERSON CONNECTORS and you could fit something heavy enough for jump leads. Then another lead with a 'cigarette lighter' socket on the other end could power any other accessories.

:D
