Had the landy up on ramps today to check my bodywork modification was enough for the new wheels and tyres, and I thought while it was up there would be rude not to take a few pictures! Bought last week for peanuts, just for a general run around and off roading toy it seems to be spot on for what I want it to do!

Front bumper is off to be cut down for wheel clearance in these pictures and I haven't sorted out the flaking paint along the arches and bottom of the doors yet, but it's had the boot floor, sills and wheel arches all replaced in the last year so it's solid as a rock.

Still got a few more bits of trimming to do to the wheel arches to allow for full articulation, it was about 2 inches off the bump stops in these photos so there's still a fair bit of travel in the suspension yet! But being a three door it's pretty straight forward to 'adjust' the arches enough, and the tyres are only 7.50s so not too wide either :) Comments and critiscism welcomed!

With all that rust, I find it hard to believe the chassis is ok, you attacked it with a hammer yet, particularily the bits in front of the rear axle.

Looks good!

Disco chassis don't normally seem to rust... Which is werid when 90/110/series chassis normally rust to ****...

Thanks for the vote of confidence  I don't know where you can see rust in those pictures, because there isn't any. With the front bumper off you can see a layer of caked grime on the two front chassis legs that were under the mounting brackets but that's it.

The whole thing is solid and has been repaired to a good standard. The only bits I can find that require attention is surface rust on the inner wing panels that sounds a bit dull when rapped with a hammer, but hasn't given way yet.

The rest of the chassis has stood up to a hefty beating with a hammer and has a lovely ring to it, same for the wheel arches and boot floor as I've already mentioned.

I'll probably give the underneath a thoroughly good pressure washing and scrubbing with a wire brush, before giving it a coat in stoneguard or similar, maybe waxoyl if i can get hold of some.

Either way, for the price I paid with the landy I could make my money back selling the engine and gearbox alone, and it's got 10 months MOT so I should get a fair bit of service out of it yet :)

Thats good, but you were the one that said all them bits were rotten and replaced earlier in the year.

Mine has good sills and boot but the chassis was rotten at the bit I mentioned, didnt want you going off on a tangent with a rotten chassis.

Loads of threads on waxoyl and remember it wont penetrate, it just lays on the surface and can allow it to rust to fook under it. I tried it and wasted my time, but last year sprayed it with auto trans oil, let it dry out for a few days and then waxoyl and it seems to work better, the trans oil penetrates and the waxoyl stops the oil washing off. But still think you need to do it every year, some of the bits at least and definatly the inside of the chassis legs, I belted holes in them with a big drill and fooked them with the oil, but never bothered with the waxoyl.

Yep, I've no idea what condition it was in before it had the work done, but the repair work that has been carried out has been done well, the welds are all extremely neat and it's all been finished and treated perfectly. They obviously realised the rest of the motor was good enough to be worth saving, so did a decent job with a new boot floor and sills.

Lucky it was a good chassis and rusty boot floor, would hate for it to be the other way around! Can't imagine why the chassis would start to rot before the boot floor though, they don't normally go like that unless the back end has been dipped in seawater or something.

Thanks for the replies everyone, might be going laning this weekend so looking forward to giving it a proper try out, that's what I bought it for after all! :)
