My Freelander is only 2 WD - Help!

Hi - Have just joined the forum in the hope there are some problem solvers here who relish a challenge! I bought (in haste) a Freelander 1 2 Lt Diesel to discover it was registered with a 1.75 petrol engine. The bloke who sold it to me said a diesel had been dropped in, was not problem etc but by this time I had bought it and could not go back on the sale (I live in France, the car was in UK so this was all done by telephone and online banking). Finally getting the car to France and seeing it for the first time I find the engine doesn't have any transmission to the rear axle. So I am looking for advice on what I need to reinstall 4WD and where to source the parts, and if I can get the car reregistered as a Deisel and so get a certificate of conformity to change it to a French carte grise. So any help welcome, but I'd rather not get messages saying what a prat I was for buying it in the first place!

sorry but you are a prat for buying it,without a proper inspection.
 
I think yu might be stuffed. :(.

Sale of goods act - not fit for purpose. Not of merchantable quality. Court case required.

Other that that, possible new IRD, definately new propshafts and VCU. as for registering it - call the DVLA.
has it had all the electronics changed?

Have registered a complaint with Northampton Trading Standards and await response. Meanwhile would advise anyone contemplating business with Mr Jeremy West of Staveley Road, Cranford, to be on their guard.

Sorry but can't find the acronyms in the online dictionary......
 
I'd call it a loss, sell off any good parts to make money, then save up for another one. Unless you can take it back to the UK. I hope you didn't pay too much for it, I hate to think how much it cost to ship to France too, bet your seller was laughing is arse off. You have 3 months of a no quibble money back guarantee under the sale of good act.
 
If you have two wheel drive then there is a IRD in place, you need a new or good second hand propshaft, complete one of course. That should make the drive train complete, or do you miss the rear diff too.
