Hi Adrian. Welcome along.
Unfortunately you have bought a bit of a lemon and it may well cost you quite a bit to get it sorted out. As the mad hat man said you may need a new IRD (intermediate reduction drive) just because it is there doesn't mean it works correctly. You will definitely need the full propshaft, both halves. A new/ reconditioned VCU (viscous coupliing unit) VCU support bearings and possibly a VCU damper. Re-registering it should be pretty straight forward with the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency).
I wouldn't order anything until the trading standards people get back to you, you may get your money back quite painlessly. In the meantime I would start looking for a GOOD independent garage to get the IRD inspected. Bell Engineering have a good reputation on here for the parts you would need, they have a rep on here, his user name is Austen, send him a pm and get a price from him.
As somebody has already said, it may not be economical to repair, so do not buy any parts until you get the IRD inspected.

What a shame you didn't join Landyzone before embarking on a purchase - especially as you're not in the country ...
Can't help technically i'm afraid but if you can take the hit and sell what you have got for parts - then that would be a big step towards a stress free result...
Maybe you should get involved with some of the knowledgable folk on here and see if anyone can look out for something worthy and in your budget , actually seeing the vehicle in the flesh has got to be number one priority surely?
Hope you get it sorted and don't worry - you're not alone when it comes to these sort of nightmares ..

Thanks for your encouraging and constructive comment. Luckily I didn't pay a lot for it. Certainly lessons learnt and I will try to salvage what I can. The shame of it is the body etc is in really good condition.
