Hi all I hope you can help with this?

Got stuck in traffic today for over an hour and the engine started to missfire. But also noticed when the traffic started to move freely that the rear window openned by itself and while moving would not go back up?

When the I am stationary the window will raise and stay put!!

Very puzzled as initially thought that maybe I had a faulty HT lead, cap, rotor arm or plug but this makes me think that there could be something else?

Any help out there?

Cheers

Rich

maybe the switch which senses whether the roof is on or off ? isn't there some kind of red key for the soft top ? (not totally sure on this as mine's a hardtop)

For a moment I was really hopeful that I'd found a Freelander thread that wasn't about a component failure and / or a breakdown! Guess I'll have to keep looking then!
Probably because the vast majority of forum members only post when they either have a problem or are trying to help a fellow member, this applies to all of the car forums that I have been a member of and not just Freelanders.

I'm just a visiting Rangie owner but was wondering if it might be something to do with brake lights and bad earths. In other words does the window move when you're stationary or when you've got you're foot on the brakes?

I've been very heavily involved with MINI and (more recently) Focus RS and Freelander 2 (Freel2) Forums, starting back in May 2004. In all that time (and well in excess of 10,000 posts) nothing has come close to the Freelander section of LandyZone for the constant reporting of breakdowns and failures, which is a bit of a shame really.

Have a look on some of the Mercedes forums if you want to see an abundance of posts about breakdowns, failures and corrosion and these are supposed to be one of the better manufacturers. I was more than happy to change my previous Mercedes for the Freelander and can honestly say that so far the Freelander, when serviced and maintained correctly, has proved to be cheaper to run, easier to maintain, cheaper for spares and no corrosion.

Battery connection loose?
hi I think that the battery conection is more than likely as the window will go down for safety on getting out of the car if all else fails say in deep water just try the conections I had the same problem when a mate put my battery on for me as i have a very bad back problem but he never tightend the lugs hope this helps and when you think about it if the conections are no tight and the engine is on tick over not much charge going to the battery and all that but I do not know why the window would not go up unless your back door switch is faulty

on 3 door variants the rear window is lowered completely, for safety, in the event of roof/ soft top removal. find the micro-switch in the o/s diagonal pillar. you will almost certainly find that the soft top is flexing whilst the vehicle is in motion causing the switch to make/ break intermittently. use some simple packing e.g blutack or similar to hold the switch closed temporarily until you can secure the soft top or switch correctly.

I was beginning to think that I had the only reliable Freelander out there! Must be something to do with being in Cornwall...
