Hi everyone. Been lerking this site for a while and now its time I need some help.

I was out last night doing some laneing in the snow, I bottomed out a few times and had to get dragged out. Well the night ended early due to my master cylinder giving up but thats a different story!

Well I got in it this morning and as I went to pull away it felt as if the breaks were stuck on. So got I dragged it a few miles around the block to try and free things up with no joy. When I got out I noticed a strong smell of I think is gearbox oil from the drivers rear wheel. No smell from anywhere else just there!

Anybody heard of this before or might know what it might be?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply. I have a complete 200tdi discovery rear axel. Will I be able to fit the whole axel? Is it a straight swap?

Clutch or brake master cylinder?

A bit disappointing that you lurk until you need help. It's a bit like joining the AA or RAC only after you have broken down. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh.

Least he's been lurking and not just joined because he's in trouble, or more importantly selling?

lurking means hes also been using the search bar. an we all know how much we like newbies to use the search bar before posting a thread haha

I'd wanna know what was wrong before I started thinking about swapping axles. Get yer wheels off the ground and give em a spin and find out whats going on

Collapsed bearings is my guess, but when you say like the brakes are on, on all the wheels equally? or is it pulling a bit to one side?

all academic until you jack the rascal up and check each wheel in turn, this should tell you something or at least give you more to come back to here with.

now away with you and get it in the air.

I havnt posted as im not one of those people who write useless rubbish just to get my post count up!!
Only reason I was going to change the axel is because the one I have I know is good plus it has disc breaks.
It was the clutch master that went, replaced that today.

As for the resistance it seems fine now and the smell has gone (probably just ran out of oil though)!! I will get it jacked up when I get chance and give it a good check over and report back.
